Would this affect my progress at all?

If every Friday night, I went to the movies, and ordered a large popcorn with a large diet coke, would it effect, or slow down my fat loss? This is of course assuming that I stay on track with my diet and exercise throughout the entire week. 2900 calories is my maintenance level, so 2400 calories is what I eat to shed my fat. I burn about 1200+ calories in the gym. So, if I went to the movies, this is what I would be eating:

Do you think a cheat meal like that is necessary to shed fat? Or do you think it can only lead to bad things... :worried:

where did you get the idea that you burn 1200 calories in the gym? that would require a shitload of high intensity activity, for a few hours.

as for the popcorn, youre looking at 1000+ calories. adjust the rest of your meals for that day accordingly in order to meet your calorie goals and you wont have to worry about anything. or add the popcorn on top of your 2400 calories that day and you end up with a weekly deficit of about 2500 instead of 3500.

planned refeeds and just eating junk once a week are not the same, but the latter is not going to kill you either.

Thanks. :)

Fitday told me I burned 1200+ calories in the gym. I added the plus sign because I know it is more than that. It said me running 8 minute miles for 30 minutes burned 500 calories when I burn 600+ calories. I do very high-intensity workouts in the gym for about an hour and a half. Maybe two hours.

I think eating a large popcorn is better than a planned refeed. Most refeeds have twice the stuff that is in a large popcorn. Also, it's not like I am munching out on doughnuts, munchkins, etc. it's just a large popcorn for the night. I have heard people eating 4,000 or more calories on refeeds.

im not talking amount of calories, im talking effects of frequent refeeds vs eating a big meal once a week. more frequent refeeds are much more effective at keeping things like leptin at more normal levels. a big meal once a week doesnt do much in this regard.

Oh, I see what you're saying. Would you consider a large popcorn a big meal?

One of my friends diets for 5 days, then eats bad for one day, then repeats it. He says he is losing decent weight. I would do something like that, but I would feel like I am messing up my diet.

This is exactly how I was going to respond, so ditto! Every friday I have my cheat meal w/some beers (sometimes) for good measure..lol I just eat a little less throughout that day, extend friday's workout, and workout a little harder on saturday. It usually equals out that way, if your worried.
Popcorn and diet coke is a good cheat and not bad at all... I've seen much worse. My usual cheat is something like a rib eye or ny strip, shrimp, and mashed potatoes... or maybe chicken wings and some beer. I don't get completely crazy but get satisfied.
It all really depends on your goals and what your working toward really. I wouldn't sweat it though. You have to live a little, that's what life is about!! :) You should get a little crazier then popcorn now and then to!! ;)
