I am 18 years old and after having several blood tests conducted this summer my family doctor prescribed me Testosterone Cypionate at 100mcg administrated every 2 weeks. Today I received my first shot and was given 200mcg as a "loading dose. I am to go back in 2 week for a blood test before they give me another shot. They say the blood work is to determine if this is a good amount or too much. The highest results I got back this summer for total testosterone was 232ng/DL. The highest free testosterone level was at 7.3. The FSH level was 3.26 in the last lab. Up until about a year ago I can only assume my levels were at least at a more normal range (this is when the symptoms started) I just wanted your thoughts and advice on this situation.

Have you abused anabolics before? Very young to to have such deficient T levels. Give us some past history as well, it will help us help you my friend.

First off, and I know it's semantics, but I doubt you were prescribed or given 200 mcg. mcg is micrograms. You were probably given mg or milligrams. (There is a big difference between the two)

Secondly, as the Doc stated, what is your total story? At 18 you should not be on TRT. That is absolutely insane. A competant doc would at least try a restart to get your body functioning normally. If you continue to take synthetic testosterone, your FSH and your LH will be in the gutter and you will be taking testosterone injections for the rest of your life.

TRT should be your last option.

Your doctor has no idea what he is doing in regards to TRT. Terrible schedule, no reason for a "loading dosage".

Every 2 week dosing is going to cause your TT levels to flatline before your next shot exposing you to some serious health risks.

As far as whether or not you should have started TRT? I am with everyone else, we need a lot more info.

But either way you should run from the program your doctor is suggesting.

There's your problem, family doctor's are almost never going to be skilled enough to put together a protocol for success. Your family doctor has no business treating you for TRT, he's giving you such a low dose that the second week you'll have very little testosterone and you'll feel horrible. Run from this doctor and find a worthwhile endocrinologist.

AGREED! Systemlord hit the nail on the head.

Always best to see a "specialist" who is well respected in the arena of mens hormones. GPs know just enough to screw you and your hpta function up. Always be treated by a provider who specializes in TRT.

After that being said, you need to see an endo to rule out many differentials! At least have them look at the pituitary/hypothalamus axis.
