2 days on 2 days off

Is this too much recovery time?? --- lifting 4 days per week---i found 3 on 1 off was too much and i was becoming burnt out quick
 
you've already answered your own question.

no one here can tell you if that is too much or too little rest time for YOU.
 
Don't think of it like there's such a thing as "too much" recovery time. I used a 2 on 2 off program for a long time with great success, and now I've moved down to 3 days per week and I like it even more.

Everyones recovery time needs are different! How much intensity, volume, etc, are things that come into play. And things like daily stress, amount of sleep, diet, etc come into play. YOU need to find what works for YOU.
