2hrs cardio / day?

You think this is too much? I don't mind doing it. I'm currently cutting, doing 1 hour of cardio ED, but I'd like to throw in another hour just 2x a week (days when I don't do weight training). It's hot HIIT or anything, I keep my heart rate around 155-165. It would be an AM session and a PM session.

Diet is 2200 cals a day. 200g carb, 300-350g protein.

No I don't think it is too much. 155-165 is pretty high intensity but if you can do that for long periods, more power to you. Today I ran for an hour at an average heart rate of 150, and felt good enough to train legs, traps, and delts later.

Try it. If your gains dont/do suffer, you got your answer. my gains probably wouldnt suffer from that much cardio

I agree. Just be careful of overtraining. I would think you could get the same result with less HIIT cardio though.

I can't really do HIIT, I have really bad knees/shins...they kill. Well, I guess I can still do HIIT on a bike or elliptical? But I prefer longer duration, lower intensity cardio, mainly because I'm lazy.

I don't think i'm going to do it on a regular basis, 1hr/day is quite enough to cut up with the right diet imo. If there's a day where I find myself with extra time then maybe I'll throw in an hour.

If your not going going to high with your heart rate, is there any reason you would be burning muscle as opposed to fat with large amounts of cardio? Personally I think muslce "burning" is a little overrated, as long as you have the protein and are in the right heart range, I figure you'll be burning mostly fat.

I have no problem packing on lots of size, unfortunately with that size comes fat which I have a major problem losing...nobody in my family has "lean" genes, not to say tha their fat, but they are all above 17-18%. Weight loss comes long and slow with me. :(

Oh and I'm aiming for about 10-12lbs over the next 4-5 weeks if possible. (I said aiming :))

You are right that muscle burning is overrated. However, there is no reason to avoid getting your heart rate as high as you can handle it. High intensity cardio, whether or not done in intervals, is king for fat burning - you burn more calories and more fat when you exercise at higher intensities. Moreover, high intensity cardio elevates your metabolism longer than low intensity stuff. All that crap about the "fat burning zone" is just that - crap. While it is true that the *proportion* of fat to carbs used as fuel is higher in the so called "fat burning zone", I still burn a hell of a lot more fat when I run 7 miles in an hour and burn over a thousand calories than I do when I walk 3 miles in an hour and burn 450. Have I given up muscle if I run instead of walk - hell no.

I also believe there is something to be gained by doing cardio in a carb depeleted state (I prefer to do it first thing in the am). I have some whey protein in water upon rising and before I start exercising to preserve muscle mass.
