A tumour which produces insulin can give you hypoglycemia

What know you about this??? Got a friend of mine who gets hypoglycemia about once a day. The friend of mine have been checked for both diabetes and epilepsy, without an positive answer. She have been having this trouble with hypoglycemia some years now, without being able to figure out what the problem is.

Don`t know if her doctor is aware of the possibilty Ive stated in the topic ( a tomour can produce insulin, and thereby give you hypoglycemia).

Don`t know how long one can live with a insulin producing tomour without it being dangerous. It`s hard to find any information on the subject, and I dont want to tell her about my thoughts before I know it`s a realistic chance of the problem being a tumour.

In regards, Hardway

It's a tumor in the pancreas called an inulinoma. THey are very small, and the way they test for it, is they hospitalise the patient for three days, and see if the blood sugar drops below 50. If it does, and fails to raise again, they operate.

These are rare. Most cases of hypo are due to reactions to refined carbs which cause a spike in blood sugar, and then a subsequent crash. Many people with hypo are frustrated, because every doctor will give different advice.

I have started on the south beach diet ( I have hypo) and nearly all the symptoms have dissapeared.

Good luck with your friend.

Ive just spoken to her, and she is set for a hospital visit at wednesday where she will starve the night in front.

They will then give her sugarpatches (think its called that), and see how she respond to it. Interesting. Hope they finally finds out whats wrong!

I dont know how most hyperglocemia peoples are, but ive learned for myself when to eat and what to eat when. It just takes knowing how your body is going to react to certain foods you eat and what to eat if you start feeling like you are crashing.

Hope your friend will be okay.

...i shivered when i read the part about an empty stomache and sugarpatches :insane2:
