I've been reading more about this lately. I'm guessing some of the resident elders have an opinion on this and have done more research than myself

Great question. I think the enlarged heart would be probably from elevated blood pressure over time. As far as the steroids directly causing that I can't say, but what I can is that I have used a boat load of aas in my life, and my heart is only slightly enlarged. Im 55 and didn't start using bp meds until a few years ago.

Yes they do contribute to it mine is enlarged and has been for ten years doctor says it's nothing to worry about

I have also read that it is not entirely uncommon in athletes though. Up until 10 years ago I trained 3 hrs a day. Now that I older, I only train for 1 1/2 -2 hrs a day.

We are still head and shoulders better than the couch potato crowd.

The heart is a muscle, and AAS sets up an environment in which hypertrophy is encouraged for muscles. While the amount of hypertrophy induced on the heart is going to vary, there is a direct link between the two. This form of ventricular (left ventricular to be precise) hypertrophy isn't necessarily a cause for concern - the other common cause of LVH due to elevated blood pressure is (as Luckypaul stated).

Fortunately there are several markers that can help determine if you're at risk (bp being the big one) for the negative kind of LVH. A stress test can help determine if there's a cause for concern as well as any signs of arrhythmia or insufficiency.

This is one of the few things that we on TRT or folks that cycle should keep tabs on along with estradiol management and hematocrit. I just consider it preventative maintenance, much like oil changes and tune ups on your car. ;)

My .02c :)

I've read that as well. It's also common for athletes to have a shorter lifespan than non- athletes. A brightly burning candle burns out faster

I love that all these studies are very inconclusive. As you mentioned some suggest that high BP causes heart enlargement.

I look at society for antidotel evidence. Many known AAS users pass away at the magical age of 60 of heart failure. But then again many don't - look at Hogan, Stalone, and of course Arnold. ..at least not yet.

2 years ago I had a heart transplant due to an enlarged heart. I was on a lot of test and tren at the time. The docs said it was probably a virus that caused my situation though. I know a couple of guys from the forums that died due to heart related issues while on a shitload of test. No way of knowing what really causes it. Could be genetics too

I used to worry about things like this, rightfully so, but what's considered a normal sized heart? The same guys come up with ideal BMI. Have any of you guys been within your normal BMI?

Shit... At 5'7 my "ideal weight" is something like 11st. That's a skinny frame. I have just hit 15st and feel somewhat average lol.

Just in the corilation of heart enlargement & death, I'll say good people, healthy people die everyday, people that don't deserve it, people that never saw it coming. That said, we all have a number & when it's up, it's time to go home. Until then live life the best you can...to the fullest!

I always get a kick out of BMI. At 6'7", I'm not even on the silly thing, yet docs like to show me how I should weigh around 225lbs. At 0% body fat, I can't weigh that - so I just smile and ask them how that 200+ year old formula is working for them. :)

It's not the size of the heart that matters per se, it's what it's doing that does. Skipped beats or swelling in the feet are signs that something is likely off. Then again, the number one cause of death in the world is heart related, so you'll be hard pressed to find a cause of natural death that doesn't somehow tie into the heart anecdotally.

How much testosterone are you guys talking about while saying shit load of test? 500 mg test can enlarge my heart?
Welcome.
It's a proven fact test does this. When your test levels are 3x more than normal it can be a factor.
If you run a cycle like you should, you'll probably never have a problem though

With 500 mg test I'm on 4000 ng/dl. You said test does this and if you run like you should, you have no problem. Which is correct? Thanks.

If you're scared, get your heart checked by talking to your doc or cardiologist, not some bro on the internet
