ACL recovery

My sister Just had ACL surgury. She is a College athlete. I would like to know if anyone has any legitimate info on which steroids ( if any ) would be beneficial for her recovery? Opinions are like assholes everyone has one and they all stink. I will take what I choose and accept the side affects, but the last thing I would do is put my little sisters health in jeopardy and risk re-injury because of her inablity to produce connective tissue because I gave her the wrong stuff. She is currently taking glucosamine and chondrotin and gnc mega womens vitamins, thats all i felt safe giving her at this point. Anyone with genuine medical reports or medical credentials to give advise?

You gave her the wrong stuff, what did you give! and if she is in college athletics, then the school would give plenty of sports medice therapy and gradually get her back in, but ACL reconstruction takes 8-12 weeks to fully recover. and then gradually get back in sports and she may be susceptible to reinjury if YOU play around with her hormone levels!! And if she has a large Q angle then she is more suscetible to other things!! Let the MD andTHERAPISTS deal with recovery. No help from steroids! Trust me on this ONE!

Tell her to go through physical therapy at 110%.... the only thing that I think may help her to recover better would be GH.... no steroids whatsoever as its the tendon that has been replaced......

ACL reconstruction takes 8-12 weeks to fully recover.

took me 6 months, w/ physical therapy 2x per week before i considered my knee normal.

most pro athletes generally require a full year for complete 100% recovery.

Well I myself had arthroscopy done approx. 2 years ago. I had both meniscus discs torn, my patella had to be realigned, and I also had to have bone spurs scraped off the back of my patella before they could align it. They also had to file down part of the bone on my tibia. You didn't hurt her by giving her the glucosamine and chondroitin. It's gonna take awhile for her to feel the affects of that, but I promise...it will help. If you could find a compound with the two including MSM, that would be beneficial as well. As far as recovery period, that varies from person and it also varies on the level of rehab, as well as the level of her activity outside of rehab. There are different types of rehab for different age and athletic levels. Some are to simply maintain and be able to walk. Others are to get back to as close to previous form as possible. I'm taking hers as the latter. Right now, while she's going to recover, do NOT give her any type of gear whatsoever. This is the regrowth and rebuilding period of her knee. She's going to have to work that out so that atrophy doesn't set in. Maybe...JUST maybe, much later down the line...you could give her something to help rebuild the muscles. The most important thing right now is rehab. REHAB REHAB REHAB!!! Can't stress that enough. Another thing you can do is this. She's going to be really down on herself at certain points. Don't worry about figuring out things you can give her to fix the problem quickly, cause it won't happen. You seem to be a good brother with good intentions, so keep it that way. Build her up emotionally and be there for her. That's the best advice I can give.
