my old highschool football workout...not sure if there is a name for it or not.

it basically was Monday-heavy, Weds-light, Friday-Medium.

It was Flat Bench, Sumo Deadlift and Squats. Lots of sets, low reps. We also threw in some complimentary lifts...but this was it. I remember maxing out once a month and our coach would up all the weights..like this was all based on percentages.

needless to say...this was huge transformation for me. In the summer of 9th grade...I was 135lbs...by the end of the summer I was 155lbs, benching 275, squatting 405 and sumo deadlifting 405. my doctor asked me if i was on steroids because of the stretch marks under my armpits...i had to ask "what are steroids?? lol. the only thing i was on back then was "hot stuff". that was the shit! i think they banned the hell out of it!

anyway, this was over 20 years ago but i'm looking to switch my workout..and this came to mind. just was curious if anyone had any idea how to do something like this correctly. being that it was so long ago i can't remember how to start..i know i have to max out, then build off of percentages of the max but that's about it.

thanks!

Hope another member will help you out. But that brings me back to my football days in HS. Almost same as you stated getting stronger throughout the season, but I was kicked off the team for being accused of taking steriods by my d-line coach. I was taking creatine and another student told him I was using. Only played freshman year..shame.

This isn't a bodybuilding workout. Idk what your goals are but this is a great workout for beginners looking to build a good base. But if your going for a bodybuilder look this is not for you.

Very similar thing happened to me...except I wasn't kicked off the team - may have had something to do with setting the school record for sacks, haha. But my D-line coach actually sat me down and was like "We need to have a serious talk son, I've heard you've been using that creatine shit, is this true boy?!"

So naturally I prepared a presentation about creatine and showed it to the whole team one Saturday morning before film...about it's biological action, long-term studies, etc. annnnnd after that they left me alone :D

Education is key!

very good point. i'm thinking this workout is also for explosive power...i remember every rep was down slow/explode up. i thought maybe some of the power lifters did something similar.

This is also how we trained back in high school football and track/field. Definitely key for building a solid base.
