My apf nationals 07 experience

Even with all the turmoil surrounding the apf/wpo this year’s seniors turned out to be a top-level meet with some huge lifts. It was an honor to compete with the level of talent that was on display all weekend.

Once again I am reminded of why I compete in the sport of power lifting. The closeness and helpfulness of all the lifters, coaches and families is why I’m still in it even at the age of 48. The Big Iron gym lifters, Becca, Shawn, Justin, Brad, Rick, and others are a first class group of people first and lifters second. Brian, Adam, Clint and others from the Jacksonville Fla. are a pleasure to be around as well as being phenomenal lifters. The gang from Bad Attitude gym in Texas were well represented and a pleasure to hang out with. My friend Michael Cartinian from Cleveland Ohio was there to help out and kept us laughing all weekend. John Manly was in town competing and has always been a representative of what power lifting should be about. My holmies from NC, Joey, Barry, Rodney, Mike, Cheryl and company gave 100% and as usual and are friends and there to support everyone. People like these are why power lifting will never die out. No matter what is going on the lifters still make this sport what it is.

As for my results I came up short but would do it all over again, and I will come Nov 17th and 18th in York Pa for the IPA nationals.

I opened with an 848 squat and nailed it easily for 3 whites. My second attempt at 881 went up nicely but I was called for depth. The same happened on my third. I dropped my bench opener from 573 to 562. Just before the flight started I headed to the scorers table to drop it to 551 but decided to leave it at 562. I had hit 573 easily my last 3 benches in the gym but missed all three 562 attempts at lockout. This was very frustrating however I’ll hit the gym and fix what’s wrong before my next meet. If I had hit my opener on bench my opening dead lift (716) would have been an American dead lift record for my age/weight class and been a world and American total record. I will definitely be doing a national level meet next year in the APF. I want these records. Also the 881 squat would have been a world and American record for my age/weight class.

The sport of power lifting is alive and well. Like all walks in life there are a few Goobers who will never be happy and live just to stir stuff up. But they represent a small % of power lifting and are easily over looked and over shadowed by the other 99%.

What an honor to be a competitive power lifter.

Here are the vids of my lifts.

Awesome lifts. I must be an amateur because I see no difference in the depth between your first squat and your third. The second did look a little shallow. Keep chasing those records, that will be a great accomplishment.

sounded like a blast...good job on your lifts...i am going to hit the usapl national in colorado this year...i may compete in all three events or just the raw bench this year..not sure yet..it isnt until november so i have time to decide...
