Average Weight Gain?

Standing 5'9" weighing in at 120lb you could say I'm very much under weight. Even though I eat well I can never seem to put on the pounds, but after reading a good portion of the articles on this forum I understand why this is. However, there is so much the human body can handle, in terms of weight gain. That being said, on average, how much weight gain is considered healthy in a week?

On a side note: I drink 3 protein shakes a day and working out regularly. The weight I can lift is rather embarassing, but how much is too much?

Stop thinking in terms of weeks, but years, plan long term and you will achieve greater gains.

Post up your daily diet in the diet forum for critique, that will be a good start.

I'm 20 years old.

I've been trying to gain weight for the past 2 months and yet my body weight has not changed. There are days when I force feed myself to gain 2 pounds in one day, but I can easily lose that the following day. Is this normal?

Apart from my weight, I have seen some developement in my biceps. They no longer resemble poles, they actually have some slight definition. I'm aware that body building is long process, but when should I expect to see some change such as growth in arms chest and legs (talking about an expansion of ~1 inch).

I don't follow a strict food regimen or calculate the calorie intake for a meal, I estimate what is sufficient. I may have to change my game plan here, but thanks for the advice.

I second this... I weighted in at a wopping 122, took 2 yrs to get to 130. I then learned how to eat a proper diet and went to 150 in a year.

Make sure eating becomes your job, eat 5000 calories a day and only do compound excersises. If your not going to put 100% into gaining weight, then just accept yourself as you are. You will get out of your body what you put into it. So make sure you are eating every 3 hours, and dont get skimy on anything. Just eat whatever you want. Remember eating is fun.

If you have no idea where you stand right now as far as how many grams of macronutrients you ingest every day or even calories, it is going to be difficult to tell you what is wrong with your diet. If you can't gain any weight, you're not eating enough, simple biology.

Perhaps if you made your workouts more intense you might get more of an appetite. You could post your training split along with exercises/sets/reps in the training forum for critique.

If you estimate what is sufficient than you are more than likely going off of what your body is telling you to eat, no? Your body isnt going to tell you to eat alot if it's not planning on growing. Sounds like you need to eat more but I could be wrong.

If I listened to what my body tells me to eat and how much, i'd drop 15lbs in a month or less. Ofcourse my gains would decrease also...and they have when I actually listened. If found that no matter how hard I work out my body still doesnt crave more food. Its what i decide to intake that determines how much I grow from each workout. (more science involved I know, but this is the jist of it)

I've looked at some of the meal plans in the sticky, "whats the best foods to bulk up, and put on size??" And what I've seen are large meals that consist of meats and oats. This will be a problem for me when I'm at school.

Could you recommend meal plans as a light carry on?

Protein shake with flax seed oil or olive oil is a quick meal, you can always blend protein and oats in the blender. Tuna doesn't take very long at all to eat.

protein shakes, hard boiled eggs, sandwiches with lots of meat, milk--no more excuses just eat and train hard--core movements

I cringe every time i get on this board with the advice i see in the diet section.

Has there been any advice on this thread you would disagree with? Especially considering he weighs 120 lbs and calories in massive quantities are what he needs...
