Baby on the way not sure what to do

Ok I have my first child on the way... My wife is due in about 8 weeks. So this is going to change my life and my work out routine. I hit the gym 4 times per week. So I figure this will end for the first couple of months untill we get a routine down.

So My question is what can i do at home to keep my body where it is and not loose any. I am not where I want to be but I don't want to loose any either.

So any suggestion would be great. I do about 200 pushups per day already, that is all i do at home the rest I do in the gym. I don't have any weights at home and don't have the room either.

Thanks gang. Look forward to the responses....

If you can't hit the gym and all you can do are pushups, I see no way around it. I lost a lot of muscle during a 6 week break that took me months to get back.

If I could have 4 days a week 30 minutes a day I could do all right. Add in driving and prep time and that is 4 hours a week basically.

Ugh!!! I guess I will have to figure something out. I have a gym at work but it is really bad. Maybe I can just do some light weight high rep stuff. Not the answer I was looking for...... thanks for the input...... Isn't there a magic pill?

well, usually, at home, you could do push-ups, triceps(dunno how it is called), toe raises, squat-thrust, and sit-ups. If a high bar is available, then chins and pull ups. :D

that mostly covers your muscle groups.

hope this help..
and GoooOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD Luck on your baby..:D

Don't have any training input for you, but wanted to say congratulations on the new arrival. I have a 2yr old girl myself. It's the most amazing thing in the world. Enjoy him/her while they're still a baby. It sure doesn't last long! And TAKE PICTURES!!!! You'll regret it if you don't! Good luck and congrats again.

Congrats on your baby!

But yea, if you can't hit the weights...you're gonna lose some muscle, theres no way around it unfortunately. All you can do really is pushups and situps and just do plyometric stuff around the house like calf raises and sissy squats and stuff like that.

Congrats on the baby! but hell.. i dont se why u wouldnt be able to drive to the gym and train... after that youll only be home right??
So, i think 1 thing per day is ok to be doing.

Ditto.

Why can't you just change the split to either a upper/lower or two total body workouts per week, in order to at least help maintain what you've got? That would cut your gym time down drastically (depending on how you do the workouts) and it would be much better for maintaining than simply doing pushups and bodyweight work at home, if at all possible.

Thanks for all the support gang. I appreciate it. and for you that think I can still hit the gym.... I need you to sell it to my wife..... LOL Not sure for the first couple of weeks I am going to be able to sell that

with kids u have to modify & adapt, but it's not a big deal, u get use to it & make it work, I use a doorway pull-up bar at home when I'm in a time crunch.

Congrats! get a bowflex or a machine so its easier to access and hit it up while not busy.
Or if no money do pushups , pullups ($20 for bar), dips (with chairs) and deep lunges

It won't be that bad. When mommy is feeding or sleeping with baby head out to the gym at night after work. They'll be time to hit the gym. Hopefully your gym is open early or open to eleven. Just make sure it's okay With mommy and try and make up for your absence at other times. Congrats

Nice necro. I'm sure his child will require less adaptation now that it's 9 years old. :p

Consider a pair of kettlebells? Very versatile. You can do a lot of exercises with them. Or a set of Bodylastics. Up to 404 lb of tension in their claim.

I have a 3month old girl and man has it been an adjustment for me. I was use to going 5-7 days a week and that came to a hault. The best think to do is stay home enjoy it baby and after a week or to u can find when is best to go. Like u said u just have to keep the miss happy an hopefully she's understanding like my wife. My wife knows that if I miss more than 2days ill b a pissy SOB so she's good about letting me go. Diet good, work out at home, help out and keep the lady happy so u can work out and b efficient with ur time. That's about all u can do. It took me a wile to realize that u have to spend time at home to get time away from home. And I have a very cool wife, so it could b a challenge if she's a little more hardheaded

Congrats by the way. Enjoy that baby wile u can. U can always hit the gym later or hope on cycle In a few months but ill never get those days with ur wife and baby back. Best of luck.
