Belt or no belt...?

To strap on a belt, or to not strap on a belt...that is the question. I hear so many different reasons why you SHOULD wear a belt and why you SHOULDNT wear a belt. Now im just talkin for deadlifts and squats...not those guys who put a belt on at the beginning of their arms routine and wear it throughout...

Never used one myself. Even when I was squating over 500lbs. Used the knee wraps though.
Hah! I actually say a guy at Barnes and Noble yesterday walking around with a weight belt on. He had cut off sleeves and was walking around with his arms way out to the side like he was doing a lat spread.

I would prefer not to wear a belt....but I have a bad back from a martial arts kick goign wqrong i.e....it hit me ;) and bad knees from a traffic accident.

So I had two choices...either not wear one and lift a pathetic load of weight (dead 154 LBS) or wear one and still being able to lift a fair amount (dead 250 LBS)...

So to reduce the tention on my back and to help force me into form I wear one while deadlifting and squating. I find it helps me not having disabling back pains for the next three or four days.

I manage to increase the weight in a steady pace and still maintain a satisfactory growth rate.

Still can't lift my former record though (dead 330 lbs) :(

I will wear a belt for the heaviest lifts, but not until then. My first two sets are usually w/o a belt for squats or deads but my heaviest set I always wear a belt and knee wraps for squats are a good idea if you are going heavy.

why do you feel you need a belt?
thres no right or wrong answer here

I put one on for heaviest sets of squats, but I have a recurring back injury which I always have to worry about.

I've always strapped on & I don't know why. It feels comfortable when I'm deadlifting / squatting anyways so I don't mind at all. :)

i wear a belt and knee wraps for the heaviest lifts. if you never tried a belt or knee wraps give them a try. without a doubt you will lift more weight..

You weren't laughing at me when you were staring at the ground, big boy.

I belt it up regularly. Even before powerlifting i did on my last sets of deads and squats, and shrugs.

I dont think there is a right or wrong answer, but you always here someone talkin about how it weakens the lower back if you wear one all the time. But then if you dont, like my case, youll jack yourself up. I just wanted to see what everyone said.
