your body heat because of the insulation the thick leather provides . lever belt is a type of belt that doesnt use prongs , insteda it uses a lever that when thrown over instantly locks the belt down tight without all the wrestling trying to get your belt tight and get the prongs in the hole . several brands are made includeing inzer ,titan, crain, etc. look at the powerlifting links sticky at the top of the training forums page and look for the link titled inzer , you will find a variey of powerlifting/weightlifting equipment there .rpny said:Lever belt, is that a brand name belt? Also when you say heat it generates.. you mean the actual belt or you'r own body heat that's trapped in the belt? I do have a tweaked back and I definetly do not want to throw it out again ..

I wear a belt when i go over 500 on deads, and will continue to. One person's opinion is not gospel.gymphreak said:theres a dude that wears a belt when he do deads....im gettin to know him so i can get him on the right path without insulting him
where did you come up with that brainstorm ? the belt gives you support and protection it doesnt lift the weight for you . pullinbig wears one when he squats does that mean he doesnt work his back muscles when he squats 700 pounds ? of course not . theres a diff between useing a belt for a crutch and useing a belt properly , for example if you can squat X amount of weight without a belt for your work sets but instead you add 50 pounds of weight and wear a belt for your work sets , thats useing a belt properly . also many people have tweaked a back over the years or are just getting old like me why in the hell wouldnt these people want to protect theirselves by wearing a belt .RJH8541 said:So how is your back ever get the strength it needs to accommodate for the heavier weight?

first off dont pardon yourself to the convo forum you just now found the best forum on the board lol .you are absolutely correct that many people use a belt way to much and for lifts and amounts of weight that they dont need one for . part of the reason newbies do that is they look around the gym and see some of the bigger stronger vets wearing theirs all the time but many of those guys are just wearing them unlatched or loose untile they do a heavy set then they buckle them down [ the waist is a great storeage place for a weight beltRJH8541 said:Sorry bro, guess that came out too fast. Guess I am used to seeing most people in my gym use belts improperly to lift heavier weight.
Guess I have always thought you want to build your core strength, especailly in your back because other exercises that you don't use a belt for could injure you if you don't have the same core strength. I guess that falls under the category of improper belt usage
I might be worng. Does that make better sense? If not, I will pardon myself from this convo.
