What is the proper bench press technique I mean as far as how far do you bring the bar down. Is it good to do heavier weight but only bring it halfway down or go lighter and bring it all the way down to your chest?

The bar should go in arch.
1)The bar should be in your eye sight
2) Unrack bar
3)Bring bar down in a controlled motion too your "lower pecs"
4)Pause
5) Press bar back up in the same path

I only go down so my tris are parallel too the floor, or 1 inch off my chest.

Lay down flat on the bench. Pull your legs as far back close to your head as possible, this will allow for a good arche. Now pull your posterior delts onto the bench, arche your back and stabalize with your lats. Now come down to your lower chest, approximately your sternum, breathe deep, and exhale and explode off your chest. Make sure your elbows are IN, not out. very important.

Remember, a big bench doesnt mean a big chest. In order for a big becnch, you need a good back, strong triceps, and strong shoulders, and of course, strong chest.

and lats to bro, the lats can help start the weight as well as the chest if used correctly also by digging the elbows into the ribs on the way down you control the decent and save more strength to press with

Draw your shoulder blades together, arch your chest .Unrack the bar bring it down slowly pause at nipple line then explode up.

Lie on your back and take the barbell of the supports, lower the bar slowly to the nipple region, and then press it back up. Whether you lock the arms or not is your own preference. Some find stopping just short of lockout keeps the tension on the muscles. Some find locking out more comfortable. Try both and then pick whatever one you are comfortable with. Don't arch your back, and don't bounce the bar off your chest. Also, use your lats when you press the bar up.
