I'm not sure what you mean by 'limited', there is tons of info on this. It is basically stomach acid and is found in digestive enzyme supplements. Your body uses this to create pepsin. I would highly recommend digestive enzymes to just about everybody.
There is also betaine anhydrous or just simply betaine which is also called tmg. There is tons of info on that as well.
Neither one to my knowledge will help increase appetite.
