bicep curl question

quit often i fell that when i am doing bicep curls i am using more of my shoulder muscles then biceps. why is that? does that mean too much weight?
 
keep the elbows down and in , dont let them drift up with the curl movement even if you have to lower the weight .

Yup, keep those elbows down and in, a slightly closer than shoulder-width grip activates the biceps muscle the most efficiently.
 
i am even also speaking with dumb bells. i seem to use my shoulders alot to lift and my elbows do come away from my side a little
 
Maybe you are using too much weight.

Drop your Db curld down 10lbs and see how things feel. And take time to focus on your form
