Big legs but bad lower back

Can you all suggest some good leg exercises that will not irritate my lower back as it is always swelling up and causing pain down my sciatic nerve when i do squats or hyper extensions. Also what exercises are good to avoid to help alleviate the problem.

reverse hypers are therapeutic..
placing the bar lower, more on your traps/rear delts may alleviate the pain you get in your low back and sciattica
