Buying Fish in Bulk for dieting?

sleepstalker

I am banned!
What types of fish can I buy in bulk from a Costco or something?

No Tilapia,Tuna,Salmon or Cod.

I am trying to find a fish that's wild, lean and low in mercury. Also affordability too is nice. I hear that most white fish has all those attributes.

Just found a list of some very low in mercury but not sure how lean they are or if they are all wild?

Catfish
Mullet
Flounder, fluke, plaice, sand dabs
Herring
Anchovies
Pollock
Crayfish
Haddock
Sardine
Hake
Salmon
Oyster
Tilapia

Not sure where you live but the key to getting any protein sources is buying them when they are on sale and well investing in a freezer.

What I usually do is wait for my protein to go on sale, so boneless/skinless chicken goes as low as 3.99/lb where I'm from, I buy as much as possible that will fit into my freezer. (Side note: cook and put in ziploc bags to maximize space). On top of that I'll usually get a rain check, for as many as I want as well. That way I don't have to buy it again until it goes on sale again. This ends up being much cheaper than costco, you think with costco you are getting the deal because it is "bulk" but when you buy like this you save more money.

To answer your actual question I used Haddock for my first and only prep, its still in my diet now. Any spices, with low to no sodium, that you can get away with really add to the flavour. I've used chilli powder and steak.

Interesting. Yeah when it comes to chicken I have been looking for it for a $1.99 a lb. Boneless and Skinless great when fried in a nonstick pan with a little pam. This week I boiled my chicken which at times can be OK but I just cant do it anymore like that. As for fish, I am SO SO looking forward to giving it a go. I hope I like Haddock. All my life I hated white fish. A few years back I did Tiliapia but now I cannot stomach it. Plus looking out for the mercury. Havent had steak in like 3yrs mostly cause of the expense. But yeah at the moment its all about what I can stomach. Due to stress my stomach is sensitive to everything now. Esp protein. So yeah fish sounds good for now at least.

Sometimes the diet is the hardest part of all of it man, looking for ways to add in flavour can be key. I guess I have gotten to the point that it just doesn't bother me anymore, just bite, bite, mouthful of water and then swallow. The flipside of this though is that I love my weekly cheat meal when it comes around haha.
