Buying meat in bulk

I do my shopping at BJ's/Costco and buy meat in bulk: several pounds of beef, chicken, pork chops, etc. What is the best way to store this? Should I cook it then freeze it? Freeze it right when I bring it home?

just freeze it when you get home. a deep freezer can be a good investment if you want to buy bulk meat and frozen vegetables when they go on sale.

make sure if theyre packaged closely together to repackage them before freezing them. This way they dont get frozen together.

Look into some local farmers. Not sure if there are many cattle farms in Florida, but here in Canada I buy a half a cow. You pay for the whole weight at between 99 cents to 1.99 a pound (Canadian funds) and you can get any cuts that you want. ie. Extra lean ground beef, steaks etc.. works out in the long run to be a hell of a lot cheaper if you are in to red meats.

You could just do what I do, take a deer during bow season, one during rifle, and one during muzzle loader. Add to that multiple turkeys during spring and fall turkey season, few squirrels before rifle starts, bass and trout during fishing season, and if you're lucky enough to get chosen for a moose permit take out a nice 900lb moose.

With tags + licenses your lookin at like 100-200 bucks for about 1300lbs of meat. Fuck BJ's, I like my meat killed inhumanely at about 150yds out with a .308
