can bbldrs do pullups or are they too heavy?

brazilian jiu-jitsu guy
can most pro bodybuilders, do freeweight pullups(using their own bodyweight)? b/c i was thinking there is soo much mass down their in the legs(quads, hams, calves, glutes) that it would seem impossible to lift a good amnt. of reps on the pullup bar? this also pertains to what i would do as a future routine regarding pullups or pulldowns.

thanx.

although the have alot of mass most guys are pretty strong aswell.... I know altelast from coleman's videos he does pull downs.

but i think he would be able to do pull pu s if he desired

I tihkn it's best to start pull ups when your lighter ofcourse but even using an assited pull up machnie or try DC(doggcrapp) chins is an effective alternative.

DC chins are preformed by using a wyde grip and putting your feet on the top of an incline bench and holding on ot the bar in either a power rack or smith maching.... you cna put a bar accross your lap as needed.

I weigh 253lbs at 5ft7 and I can do 20 pullups without too much difficulty-the last 3 are difficult.

I don't see how they're too heavy, last week I did 6 chins with 70lbs attached to me, and I'm only 208lbs. And the pros are a LOT stronger than I am

I don't think i could do a pullup if i tried, lol. Alot of it is conditioning, if you do them they will get better. The fact that my shoulder feels like it is coming out of the socket when i try doesn't help.

so the answer is basically YES. bodybuilders can easily do pullups with no problem using their own bodyweight. okay... so anyways just wanted to check with you guys.

and yes alot of it is conditioning. i'm trying to work my weight up eventually but for now i'm diong the assisted chin machine thing. hopefully using 800mg/week of test and deca, along with a 4000 + calorie diet, i can get my own bodyweight(10 or more reps) in a few weeks.

well i know this sounds nieve but yeah mabye it will take about 8 weeks or so....sorry i said few. but yeah i'd be doing pullups as my first exercise on back day so the primary strength reserves are put where they are needed to.

we had ths discussion a few months back. i think frosty and some other guy got banned over it. =0) it was funny as hell.

but back to old timer. can I call you OT? i mean you like one of the family and shit.

i dont even do pull ups and when the "pull up wars" started, on the next back day i went to see what i could do with a very wide grip. at the time i was 315ish. i hit 10 reps before i failed. and i aint even a bber. damn just think if i was.

A good way to work on pullups is the old Arnold Technique , he would do 50 pullups on back days no matter how many sets it took him he would go till he hit 50. Then start adding weight.

I used to be the endurance king when it comes to pull-ups, I could just crank them out. The added bodyweight has definitely affected my endurance but I can still do 20 in a row and that is still better than many of the skinny people I know.

That's pretty damn good bro! Im 6 3 at 242 and can only do like 6. I think pullups are tougher for taller people though.

aRNOLD is full of shit.

mariusz pudzianowski can do just do 12 overhand pullups to failure, he weighs 290-310 and he was the worlds strongest man. this gives u an idea, pull ups r not easy, i would be surprised if anyone over 250lbs could do 20 pull ups, not underhand.

i would think weight is more of a detriment than length. =0l

I'm sitting at 230 right now, 5'8" and I can hit 20. I guarantee when I hit 250 I will still be doing 20 reps.

Hey Huskyguy,

You've been packing on the lbs. Congrats. Are you still fairly lean (and natural).

I think pull-ups can be difficult but improvements can be made quickly if worked at. I'm forcing myself to only do pull-ups and deadlifts for back right now. Back to basics.

I suck at those but I am trying to become better at em..My workout buddy was in the NAVY and can just rep out on those suckers..

The past three weeks I have been doing 50 reps on pull-up's, basically as many sets as it takes to get 50 and damn is it tough, my reps are usually b/w 4 and 6..

I weigh 234 aat 6'3, my long arms hinder me from getting better I guess...

I tried to do twenty pull-ups in a row today, I was only able to crank out 14, I was not too happy about that. My lame excuse is that it was after a heavy leg work-out so I was feeling a bit exhausted--Next time I will try it when I am not so worn out. Pullinbig is right, weight is more of a detriment than height.
