Im pretty out of shape so I know it would be easy for me to overtrain on my weight lifting workouts right now but...Can I overtrain from doing 5-6 days of cardio 1hr+? I haven't been doing any cardio for a few months.

yes...imo i think you can, you should still let your body recover at least one to two days a week..if not more...i treat cardio just like lifting..

I assume you want to loose weight and improve your general cardiovascular health. What kind of cardio are you doing? If you are running, it probably is bad on your joints to run that often. If it biking or elliptical glider, go ahead and do it that often if you can. But you don't want to try it and then get so burned out that you end up doing nothing. I would start up slow, like 30 min every other day, and work your way up to 1hr/day over a few weeks. The key thing is to have a routine that you can follow for a long time.

yes, you can overtrain with cardio. the bad thing about it, you aren't lifting heavy weights, you are using much less effort, just a lot more often. So it can be hard to pinpoint what causes an injury. To me, overtraining results in loss of appetite and lethargy. If you don't feel better at the end of workout than at the begginning, you are doing too much of that activity. try doing a different kind of cardio every day and see if that helps.

I do 4-6 days of cardio but I cycle how I do it.
Mostly
1. 24min od bike with sprints on hills
2. Elipitical for 16-20 min
3. treadmill(1min warm up) start 3 incline at 6.2MPH and increase .4MPH every 75 seconds.
I try to mix it up,5 times a week I do less but more intense, nothing leg day & rest the next day somtimes two days.Really listen to your body,You can't be big & train lots of cardio so you need to find balance.Like they say if you don't let your body adapt you should get progress or at least not fall back.
For my avatiar I did spinning 3-4 days a week and that's it but have you ever tried spinning??could not squat heavy but rep out 33 at 235!
Danm those were the good old days:(
