Clindamycin

i am a doctor and i use clinda for more than just acne. also it doesn't work very well for staph. for skin infections like you are mentioning (i.e. abcesses) these are poly-microbial (multiple bacteria) in nature. i would use something like keflex (cephalahexin-generic) and clindamycin (the clinda reduces toxin production by strep species and some staph). you should see a doctor to be evaluated. you may have a high prevelance of MRSA (methacillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus) in your area. if so then other agents will be more suitable to your treatment regimen. also if things are severe enough, you may have to have a local debridement prior to any anti-microbial therapy. this is just a quick and dirty approach to your question, not an end all be all answer.

it would depend what you are infected with. not all abscesses are caused by the same organism.
