Creatine - not enough water or not good for me?

Ever since I started taking creatine (GNC creatine burst), my stool gets really dry. I only take one serving a day. Whenever I take a dump, it hurts and sometimes there is blood.

I have increased my water intake but it has been ongoing for several weeks now. Does that mean I need more water in my system as well as more vegetables or should I switch to a different brand of creatine?

Blood in your stool is always bad. If you react like that to creatine, drop it, it's not worth it. I would definitely increase water intake, a lot. Also consider this might not be due to the creatine, but you have another problem that's causing it. Is this your first time using creatine? If you decide to switch, try creatine CEE.

I started taking creatine for several weeks now. It seems like my shit is really dry and so its not lubricated enough and scrapes my rectum up.

I would start lowering my serving of creatine and increase the water intake to see how it goes.

I don't have any prior medical condition, if that is what you are asking. I don't smoke or drink. I drink only water and no soda. I try to eat healthy.

Like what Thoms said, try dropping the creatine. Is this creatine monohydrate? If it is, try switching to Creatine Ethyl Esther. Drink a lot more water, get some healthy fats in you(fish oil, olive oil, etc) - those will help lubricate your stools. Also, eat more vegatables.

Yeh, that happens...hear astroglide may help :goof:

jk.

more water won't really help unless you shit water??? try drinking some soda..it'll loosen up the bowels and may help. You could also look into a daily fiber (metamucil) drink and that should keep you regular. Good luck.

besides fiber intake it would also be nice to know how much water you are taking in...if your not up near a gal and half or more you are not taking enough water in. PERIOD. you need that much atleast if not more esp with the additional creatine in your system.

in all honesty there is alot more to look at than just your creatine consumption, like what does your diet consisit of carb/fat/protien wise along with intake of fiber.
those other factors could also play into your hard stools.

How much creatine you taking? It might be a shock to your system to have that much extra creatine...Are you a vegeterian?

No, I am not a vegetarian. But judging by my profile in the signature, you probably couldn't tell the difference.

I only take one serving of creatine a day, which is 5 grams.

I eat All-Bran cereal in the morning, usually some kind of chicken sandwich for lunch, energy bar in the afternoon, and rice for dinner, V8 on the side.

I will increase my intake of fruits and vegetables to see how it goes.

1st is that your average daily diet?
2nd how much water are you consuming? (before you started to increase water intake)

Yes, that is my average diet.

Before I started taking creatine, I wasn't working out and not being very active either. I would take about 60 oz of water a day. Now, I would guess at about 100 oz.

After reviewing my diet, I hope it is the lack of fiber that is causing this problem.

then yes not enough fiber (your diet blows, go to the diet forum and look around for some solid advice) and your water intake is still too low, up it to over 180oz ED about a gal and a half a day.

Since adding peppermint oil 150mg ED before bed into my diet I'm now pooping like a king, infact my whole digestion is better....
