creatine + whey protein - my doubts

I've been taking creatine and whey protein, lately I've only been on creatine, but I have some doubts that I'd like to clear out:

-Are there any side effects caused by creatine?
-When should I take creatine and whey protein? Some say before the workout, others say after... I'm confused. I usually take the creatine before the workout and the protein after. Is it right?
-If you had too chose between these two in terms of muscular mass gain, wich one would you choose?
-Is it true that creatine burns body fat?

I used both after a workout, but the creatine I used had dextrose in it, 75 gram of carbs(sugar). So I got carbs/protein and creatine in a post w/o shake, then I'd eat 1 hour later. I still do the same thing but without the creatine right now.

No side effects. Just be sure to keep water intake high.

Use whey pre, post workout, first thing in the morning, and whenever you may need to get extra protein that you are not getting from food.

I would choose protein.

Creatine does not burn body fat.
 
Oh, a small correction, the question might be confuse, when I ask about wich of those two you would pick, I mean the whey protein supplement, not the proteins you get in normal food. [[]]
