Cut out protein shakes

Just an observation as I have cut out protein shakes from my diet over the last 7 days. In doing so, I have not had that "bloated feeling" that I always get from a protein shake. I have also lost 2 pounds and I have been maintaining my protein count by eating more solid food such as chicken, beef, whatever. Bottom line is ...I am loosing weight(fat), I don't get any bloating feeling and I am keeping up my protein count and i feel better overall. I should have tried this 10 years ago as I have always had that bloated feeling from shakes and I have tried many, many, many different brands. Just my 2 cents worth!

try egg white protein powder or an isolate from TP.com

A good blend is teamskip blend.

Cheap conectrates always left me bloated.

are you mixing them with milk? If so, that probably has alot to do with it.

To answer a couple of questions. It has been mostly whey protein and some soy which have left me bloated. Also, I have tried mixing with, milk, water, fruit juice, sport drinks. Must just be my body chemistry! Oh well, I am reaping the rewards from stopping plus...I get to eat more!

Out of curiosity, what is the name of the powder you were using?

Easto,
Quite honestly I have used so many it's hard to remember. Here are a few of my last one's. Muscle Milk, Myoplex, Pure, 100% Whey, Gnc, just to name a few. I know it's not the product. Not trying to put any of them down. Simply put, protein in that form does not agree with me.

I wish I didn't need to use protein powder. Life would be great if I could eat enough steak and chicken :D

i stoped taking my shakes aswell, started to get a gut from it so i stoped and i can feel and see the diffrence, just adding more protein to my diet ie, more meat and chicken

If you were to use 100% whey isolate you may not get bloated. If you ever feel you need a day time / night time powder, try milk protein isolate.

What protein were you using that gave you a gut? Did you blend it with anything? Milk?

I think alot of people forget the protein powder is a SUPPLEMENT. It is not a necessity if you are getting enough protein from your solid food diet.

Myself, I don't have the time and it's not economical for me to be eating 6 servings of meat each day so I SUPPLEMENT with protein powder

a gut as in you got fat from protein powder?

oh ok so the 4 calories per gram of protein from the powder made you fat, but the 4 calories per gram of protein from the meat and chicken didnt. that makes total sense.

Thats exactly what I thought when this thread started. Limiting supplements as little as possibal is how it should be. Its not some new break through in nutrition by choosing food over supplements its just common sense. But I am in the same boat with you. I just can't eat as much food as I would need. So protein shakes give me a MAJOR boost.

Thats why I asked what he was taking. I wonder if it was just all whey that he was consuming, and I wonder if it was a sugary / fatty blend.

Perhaps he relied on shakes much more than food and his metabolism speeded up once he started eating more food? I would like to know what it was.

it doesnt matter, if calories are kept the same, whether youre eating meat or using protein powder isnt going to make you leaner/fatter. Cutting out certain powders may be easier on your stomach (bloating, gas, etc) or do things to how much water youre holding, but youre not going to lean out from switching from concentrate to chicken, regarless of how many negligible trace carbs/fat are in the protein.

my guess is that he was either bloated from the powder, or his calories dropped when he stopped taking the powder. The only possible way you would be able to "see" any bodyfat change.

your proberly lactose intolerant or have an intolerance with the enzymes in the powder

I agree 100% with wat sugar is saying. 4 cals is 4 cals no matter where or what u get it from.

Dont forget he mentioned muscle milk which contains a good amount of fats not just protein
