Deadlifts?

Why do dudes drop the weight or let go of the bar when they get to the top when doing these? Isn't the negative where the muscle stretches? Esp for Myofib. Hypertrophy???

due to injury concerns really. its not easy to slowly lower 500 pounds to the ground for most people.

it does bother me when some jackass is dropping it for every rep at 135, but when you get into the higher numbers/closer to 1rm its more of a safety thing

slow on the way up, fast one the way down. only lift you do like that. you want to slowly lower 350 pounds? that's retarded bro.

Not SLOW SLOW. I mean controlled. Rather than say just completely dropping the bar from your hands at the top. Btw I advocate straps or chalk

yes you want to control it on the way down but not muscle it to slow it, let gravity do most of the work. if you're dropping the bar at the top you are an idiot and i'd tell them that. i do not advocate straps in the least, they are just a crutch. ever since i stopped using straps around 3 months ago, my posterior chain gives out WAY before my grip does, and we're talking 90% of 1rm for sets of 5x3 or 5x2. chalk is a good thing, straps are for sissies.

Tell me, does Benedikt Magnussen "slowly" put the bar down when he deads a thousand pounds? A deadlift is considered complete when the shoulders are squared, the knees are locked, and the weight is stable. What you do with it after that is your business.

The reason for using straps is not because you're a pussy, it's because you can train more lifts after your grip goes. You should always work on your grip -- farmer carries, pullups, etc. But there's no reason to stop lifting because your grip gave out. Lift with straps. Every single one, every single one of the weight lifters in the olympics lifts with straps in training. You're either training to get big or you're not. Morals don't come into it, or let's face it, you wouldn't be using t. Get over yourself. Fuck.

Fuck, I couldn't leave it alone. That bit about straps are for sissies really fucking burns me up. What else is for sissies? Tacky when you're doing an atlas stone run? Tape on your forearms when you're doing husafell stones? How about weight lifting belts? Singlets? Tape on my thumbs when I hook grip? What the fuck, man? Seriously, I'm angry and I realize it's not you (I missed a big lift at the gym, and I'm still pissed), but that's just fucking ignorant.

if you always train with straps you will always need straps. i quit using straps and yes in the beginning my grip gave out long before my back did, but now i'm to the point where my back gives out long before my grip, and it didn't take long at all. i'm also not special, so the same should hold true for everyone. i never said anything about tacky or tape, so get the fuck over yourself bitch.

This is not really true. I have seen people in powerlifting comps red lighted because they did not lower the weight under control.

^ for training purposes 1 full rep is from starting position on the floor-up-then back to the floor. a complete full range of motion.

for 1RPmax and self gratification i may drop the thing from the top. competition is a different animal

straps let you train into the next level. use all the tools around

how do straps help you train to the next level? they are nothing but a handicap. if your grip is as strong as or stronger than your posterior chain, ie they aren't fatigued after your back is smoked, then what good are they? they don't support or strengthen your back, they hinder any strength gains with your grip. so you're saying continue to strengthen your back, glutes and hams, but neglect the grip? tell me how that works out for ya.

So here's the deal. If I want to do 12 sets of 8 reps on 75% load, it's just a fact that my hands are going to go. But if I have the muscle capacity to keep training, there's no reason to stop. People that don't use barbells or don't train exclusively on barbells just don't recognize this.

I was not lying when I said 100% of the lifters at the olympics train with straps. They train with straps so they can train longer, not go heavier, because obviously, they're not allowed to use straps at the Games. On the other hand, they only need six reps at the Games.

I'm saying use them as a tool to make incremental increases. i guess i don't have grip issues, but more post chain issues. trying to get both up to their potential OR equalized and for now straps are helping. Do i want to rely on them? no- not at all

Deadlifts is not something you want to go slow on the negative with. I see nothing wrong with dropping the weight on your last rep when your deadlifting 500lbs. Now when you got 185 on there and doing it thats just retarded. I also hate when people bounce the bar off the floor. Its called a deadlift for a reason.
