I'm a bit confused, I've heard maltodex. has a higer gi, making it good for p/w carbs, but its a complex carb (i think), or at least "more complex" than dextrose which is a simple sugar. I'll be adding whey iso. and creatine for my p/w drink, just wondering which is ideal for this purpose.

i was wondering the same thing. right now i am using ultra fule by twin lab for my post work out carb drink and it is moslty maltodex.

Use both. Dextrose provides your body with simple carbs. Maltodextrin for complex carbs. Use an equal amount of each.

If you're not using insulin, maltodextrin is fine. the rate of breakdown into glucose(dextrose) is really about as fast or faster than the rate of absorption/uptake of glucose anyway. The fact that maltodex is higher GI will give a slightly higher endo insulin release. If using insulin, use strictly dextrose IMO, as the rate of glucose uptake is greatly increased.

malto might be considered a complex carb but it acts just like a simple sugar. use either. if it were up to me, i would just use 1 to make it simple. shit some people use oats instead.

All I know is that dextrose tastes 1000x better, maltodex. has a glue like consistency

i dont know about that man have u ever tried the ultra fule, it tasts fuckin awsome.

I like to mix them in a 50/50 ratio when I get them from proteinfactory and the like. Otherwise I just get bags of dextrose at a dollar a pound from bulknutrition.com.

I'll second (or third or whatever) the half and half of both. The maltodextrin will give you a nice big insulin response, and the dextrose will be shuttled into the muscles nicely.

no major reason. it is the simplest form, and therefore works. not saying it is any more effective than malto, but it is close to splitting hairs. I follow up w/ a meal containing more comlpex carbs 1 hour later anyway, so I'm not cooncerned about getting extended breakdown and uptake time from carbs in my first shake.

Oops. I should also mention that I use humalog post w/o as well. When not using slin, I try to keep my endo slin response as minimal as possible.

Maltodextrin has a significantly higher glycemic index than dextrose.

correct, which is why I don't use it, in order to keep my endo slin response to a minimum.
