Do you think one of them is using gear pt. 2

I knew you were going to have some anecdotal input lol.
You're right though, there are exceptions to the "rule"

Your story about having to argue gravity is exactly what I meant when I said that schools teach you to blindly follow.
If the teacher teaches you the sky is green and you say it isn't, you're wrong for being right.
You're wrong for having the guttural fortitude to stand up for what is right.
At which point, like you said, you're "punished"; until you get in line.
Reeducation I believe is what the North Koreans call it.

Trade specific schools are another exception; I equate them more to learning in the field than actual school.
What I meant by being more beneficial to lean in the field is that generally when you're learning in that environment, you have a vested interest and some experience already with what you're trying to learn.

An education without purpose is nearly useless.

This is true and you do bring up some good points. I agree that in many cases we are taught to blindly follow, but sadly it's all a means to an end. I learned the hard way that unless you're extremely lucky or have friends in high places - a degree is a necessity in this day and age. Sure, the top billionaires right now dropped out of school, but we have to look at their circumstances and how they were able to make it to where they are. I'd wager Bill Gates could have easily obtained a PhD in computer science if he wanted, but had such unique circumstances around his beginnings where he was able to capitalize on a product/idea which turned out to be world-changing. Sadly, I'm no Bill Gates though. :p

I wholeheartedly agree with the bolded statement. I think that kids should be exposed to different career paths while young so they can get a taste of what they may enjoy/do well at. This would save a lot of time and money as maybe little Billy would be better suited to be a plumber (which he enjoys) than spending 6 years in college to find out he doesn't care for marine biology as he once thought. The education system itself is quite a mess, and I can't see it getting any better to be honest.

My girl wound up in a bad situation because of college (this was before we met).
She had been drinking the cool-aid that if she goes to college for X that she'll get a high paying job in X field.
The problem was that's where the though process stopped.
She wasn't exposed to the different career paths that would allow her to choose the one that works for her.
Because of that she now has a degree that is losing it's relevancy and a job that doesn't even use it at all.
She'll be paying that sucker back until she's 55 years old. Even IF she were to get a job in her field, they don't pay well at all. They are 90% seasonal jobs that offer minimum wage at best while still requiring a bachelors.

It's all part of the propaganda machine run by colleges.
"More education means more money!"
No. Only if you have the drive, determination and ingenuity to use it in a way that sets you apart from your graduating class. It's a bit of a catch 22, if you had the drive and determination, you wouldn't need college.

Here's some food for thought, what happens when college becomes the new high school?
If everyone is expected to have a degree, are they an advantage anymore?

Aww, I was hoping you were coming up here. At least it will be easer for us to go to Disneyland. And I don't care what anyone says, Socal has THE BEST babes!

I was actually hoping for that too lol. I kinda wanted to get out of the state. So Cal is a completely different world than up here though. Lol I'll actually be about 25 mins from Anaheim so yes, it will be much easier. I bet there's a lot of kings fans down there  That's what I hear. Everyone says a 10 up here is like a 5 down there, and there's a lot more to choose from lol. Maybe I'll actually get laid.

What's the cost of living down there compared to where you're at now?
That 2k/month might be break even with CoL.

That's why I'm getting my Master's degree. The economy has already made it so a BS is the bare requirement. That truly does suck about your girl, education SHOULD pay far more for quality teaching than it does right now. If they just did audits and dumped the shit profs, and then rewarded the good ones, the entire country would be far better off imo.

Housing is A LOT more expensive... like 3x the price. Everything else seems to be about the same. It's So Cal though... everyone is rich and looooves to show it.

I'm going to go into home inspecting. (actually really seriously thinking about it)
I'm not sure what sort of education they require but I just paid my guy $440/hour.

It's a state and national test with like 20 hours "schooling" (an online course) to become an appraiser. Same as becoming a loan officer. It will cost you ~$1000 all said and done.
