Not sure where to post this so Ill give this section a go...

All the big guys I talk to about training keep telling me that when I grow up I'm going to be big. The thing I dont get is that at age 20, Im really old already and Ive seen plenty of guys on here who are younger then me yet still bigger??

The question is does age matter? At what age did you guys start to get BIG? What age did you start playing with AS (if you have)? And the big one...Is there such thing as "puppy fat" or is it just fat?

Thanks Guys! :)

My Stats:
20yo
5'11
85kgs (187 pounds)
16" bis
10% bf

i am 38 and i am bigger then i have ever been and in better shape..so i say no...no age doesnt matter...

but if you start to train now...even natural, you are 20, think where you will be at 38...

well bro..i wish i started at 20.....i would be twice where i am at today....and at 20, i dont really believe you need to be on anyhow...

Genetics play a big role in how fast you are going to grow naturally as well. Some people are just genetically gifted.
For me, I started training when I was 19 and have been training for 16 years. Over the years, I've developed a good level of muscularity naturally. I didn't do my first cycle until this year!
How long have you been training seriously for?

hmm that would make you 35 ;) , sspeedo , muscle maturity only comes with age , think about the young guys you have seen that are muscular and lean now compare them to an older guy with the same build , the older guy will almost always be thicker from front to back than the young dude , this thickness comes with age and muscle maturity

Fyre, been lifting 4 years. The first two were kinda wasted because my Trainer wouldn't let me lift heavy (I was a 16 yo GEEK) anyway the last 2 years have been all the gains.

Oh and I hate genetics...

Speedo, I'm 18 and I've been lifting for the last 4 years, pretty much balls to the wall, but with piss poor genetics. The first 2.5 to 3 years, I went in there busting my ass but not making progress, except in short spurts where my strength would just skyrocket, none of the steady progress I should have been seeing. I am still not big by any stretch, but I am starting to see a little (very little; something's gotta change) progress. Just a month ago, I finally cracked the 16" cold mar on my arms.
Only the last year or so have I truly been bodybuilding per se, but I see no reason why age should matter. The last several months before I moved out here to go to college, my lifting group consisted of me, a 20 yr., a 28 yr., a 34 yr. (only juicer in the bunch) and the baddest dude of us all was a 50 year old dentist. AGE DOESN'T MATTER.

also, IMO your "trainer" fucked you hard by keeping you from lifting heavy. I know that young kids, such as under the age of 14, aren't supposed to lift too heavy, instead concentrating on proper form and a good foundation, but at 16, you should have been balls out, my friend. If you still work with this "trainer" I would recommend kicking his ass to the curb and finding somebody that can really help you.

lol..yep that makes me 35. :)
I totally agree with everything else you said in your above statement.:D

Well hun, chances are I wouldn't have let you lift too heavy when you were 16 either. They weren't wasted years sweetie. They didn't want you too lift heavy due to the fact that your body is still growing and developing at that age and didn't want to risk any possibly injuries.

Shit, i lifted very heavy at 16, and so did most other athletes in HS. Now when you are 20 you are just starting to fill out. Your frame will get bigger when you are around 20-21, your shoulders and back will get wider and your structure will change slightly. If you are in college look at freshman who are seriouis lifters and look at seniors and you will see a difference. The seniors are men.

well bro ill be 30 in december and just the past year have i actually started finally filling out . im finally feeling like a man rather than a young adult .
and dont freak out man ! when i were your age my arms were only 13 inches and i weighed 160lbs at 5ft 10 with a smaller than most bone structure and TINY JOINTS , and i STILL had a small amount of belly/thigh flab so it wasnt all muscle . i was a slightly chubby kid with very bad asthma . now i get an attack once or twice during flu/cold season and its nearly nothing compared to years back while a kid . i credit full barbell squats and training in general to developing respritory system and overall rib structure to better handle my inherited disease when it strikes and itr actually prevents it usually for some reason now . i would say it has nearly cured me , training is a cure to many things .

my recommendation is give powerlifting focussed on the big 3 lifts for 3 to 6 months to get your lifts up and a lot of meat/potatoes . never stop useing these moves and when you go back to BB'ing you'll be way stronger and more strength equals more muscle and these 3 lifts will make you damn thick over years bro just look at guys like big kaz or big ronnie c. uhm and keep the boozing to friday nights if you do that stuff , this makes a difference .:40oz:

Ok. here goes:

I know that there is sound reasoning behind keeping younger kids from lifting heavy weights, due to the development yet to occur, but, I was started lifting heavy (well, heavy to me anyway) weights in the 7th grade. The average age for that grade level is 12-13 yrs. If the rhetoric that lifting heavy weights as a kid will stunt growth, hinder joint development, etc. has any merit, then by all means, myself, my classmates/teammates, and every other kid who played jr. high and high school football in east Texas should be a 5'2" full grown adult, with tiny, arthritic joints by the time they hit 19.

Personally, I see nothing wrong with children in the 15-16 year old age range lifting balls out. I did it and so did all the other athletes at my high school, and we all developed perfectly fine, IMO.

Ok. sorry. off my soapbox now.

I'm only 15 and I lift heavy, and I haven't noticed any growth stunts!

for Speedo's question I'd say, when they say "when you'r older" I'd take it as you would have been training for much more time and your gains should be impressive.
don't let it slow ya down

I started lifting heavy when I was 15 as well, and noticed no effects on my level of growth. If it did, Im glad Im 5'8 and not 6'1 or some crazy thing like that.
