Does L-Glutamine have a taste?

Just re-upped on a bucket of L-Glutamine to add to my protein shakes. Been using it for quite some time and it never had much of a flavor at all. This new batch - same brand I've been using all along - suddenly tastes like crap. At first I thought the milk had gone sour or something. Finally realized it was the L-G. Anyone else notice l-g having a flavor before?

If you take it by itself or with straight water it has an unpleasant taste, but it shouldn't take much at all to mask the taste. Assuming you're not megadosing the stuff into your shake, it's not a good sign that you can taste it.

if u take it w/ water then i would say it has a sort of salty taste... if u throw 5 g in your protein shake u wont taste it

Ya, only doing 5 grams at a time, so def not megadosing.

Before this batch of product, I never even noticed the stuff when added to a shake - now it is very noticeable.

with water it tastes kinda sweet to me

Ya, I would agree - all the product I'd tasted before this new bottle did have sort of a sweet taste with a little grainy texture.

Sent an email to the supplier (vitacost in this case) and asked about it... will see what they have to say.

Just got an email back from the supplier saying, ya sorry sounds like the stuff is bad please discard it and we will refund your credit card. So, case closed as far as I'm concerned - but still, really wonder what gave it that flavor. Well, on second thought, maybe better not to know.

Well atleast you heard back from them.
Sucks.

Ya was pleasantly surprised - gotta give props to their customer service... and actually glad they did a refund instead of sending more product. Not in the mood to trust it a second time.

The unflavored version doesn't seem bad just a lil taste but the other's said it's easy to fix with adding something to it.

Am actually glad the stuff wasn't flavored - might have never noticed there was something off about it. But otherwise yes I agree, the taste of the stuff never bothered me before this episode.

Man, I've been reading through some of the old threads YellowJacket has contributed to (example) and am starting to think maybe it is a waste of time and money to even bother with glutamine as a supplement... may have to add it to the huge old pile of Snake Oil supplements I've tried over the years.

Honestly, aside from diet and hard work, have only found two supplements that have actually made any noticeable difference so far... creatine and testosterone cypionate.
