Gonadorelin Acetate Sterile Injectable Solution
SYNTHETIC HYPOTHALAMIC LUTEINIZING HORMONE-RELEASING HORMONE (LHRH)
DIN 02030314
DESCRIPTION
FERTILINE is the trade name registered by IAF BioChem International Inc. for the structural synthetic decapeptide (pyro) Glu-His-Trp-Ser-Tyr-Gly-Leu-Arg-Pro-Gly-NH2. This sequential structure is physiologically and chemically identical to the neuro-hormone secreted by the hypothalamus of many animal species; it is designated under various names: Gonadorelin, LHRH, GnRH, GnRF LRF.
The sterile solution contains 50 micrograms per millilitre (50 mg/mL).
ACTIVE INGREDIENT
Gonadorelin Acetate:
50 micrograms per milliliter (50 µg/mL).
Preservative: Benzyl Alcohol
2% V/V.
INDICATIONS
FERTILINE is recommended as an aid in reproductive management in cattle and is used mainly for treatment of cystic ovaries in the bovine.
PHARMACOLOGY AND TOXICOLOGY
During the normal oestrus cycle of mammals, two gonadotrophins FSH (follicle-stimulating-hormone) and LH (luteinizing hormone) act specifically on the ovaries. These two hormones are released by the anterior hypophysis following stimulation by neurohormones secreted by the hypothalamus. The production and release of these hormones is modulated by a feedback mechanism operating between the hypothalamus and pituitary. The hypothalamic hormones are peptides.
When innoculated intramuscularly, the synthetic hypothalamic luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone has an effect similar to the purified natural hormone: it increases the anterior hypophyseal secretion of gonadotrophins, specifically LH and FSH. It improves the overall conception rate by enhancing normal hypothalamo-pituitary function, thus re-establishing the normal growth and maturation of follicles.
Administered intramuscularly to cows at doses of up to 400 µg, gonadorelin acetate is not toxic, does not produce any untoward reactions and does not alter the haematological or biochemical blood parameters. At the recommended levels, this hormone has no embryotoxic or teratogenic effects.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
The recommended intramuscular dose of FERTILINE is 100 µg per cow (2 mL of a solution containing 50 µg/mL).
STORAGE RECOMMENDATIONS
Store at controlled room temperature (15°-25°C), in the dark.
WARNING
Treated animals must not be slaughtered for use in food for at least 7 days after the latest treatment with this drug. Milk taken from treated animals during treatment and within 12 hours after the latest treatment must not be used as food.
AVAILABILITY
FERTILINE* in multidose vials of 20 mL and 50 mL of a sterile solution containing 50 µg/mL of gonadorelin acetate.
