Eat it or Beat it!!!

Forbidden from buffets
hi guys and gals this is my first thread starter so please bear with me a bit.

im trying to gather some knowledge and help in the area of strength and conditioning coaching for football players and thought that this would be a great place to start. ive done a few search on this board and various other boards and havent been able to obtain alot of info...ive even written PMS to quiet a few members with pretty much the same luck.

what im really after here is a bit of advice on how to structure a pre season - in season weight training program and cardio program. basic layouts, rep ranges, intensity, days in the gym, cardio workouts, HR %, intensity, and speed/endurance drills.

sorry to lay this all on you but im just really thirsty for ideas and think u guys would really be able to help me out.

thanks

Hello,I'm a fellow football coach.

I've played several years of highschool football, and have done a few different programs, I'll type up some ideas for you later.
edit: What type of equipment/facilities do you have to use?

Preseason weights -- Explosive Power and Strength (in that order) program

Inseason weights -- Maintenance mostly. Focus on your core movements, but bear in mind that players will also be practicing hard and that the body can only take so much. It would be much easier to induce overtraining in an athlete while they're also practicing 2-3 hours per day, football style, (pads, specific movements, etc. that tax the body more than most sports) than in the offseason/preseason.

Days in the gym depends on the abilities of your players. I'd say 3-4 during the offseason and probably only 2 in season.

High intensity.

Cardio should be a mixture of endurance and speed/explosiveness drills during the preseason/offseason, IMO, to get the athletes the endurance to play an entire game and to improve speed/explosion. In-season, if you do any 'cardio' at all on top of your practices, I believe you should be doing sprints/explosion drills.

Just my .02

ok spikey for you preseason u basically hit the heavy weights. what length of program(reps - sets-exercises) will i be looking at. also frequency of training...would it be wise to hit 2-3 excerises in the morning and another 2-3 in the arvo or just have a complete session

inseason is pretty straight forward

now cardio...for endurance base work what drill would u do. long runs? or middle distance runs. what would the work to rest ratio be

thanks for your help to btw
