the bottom line is diet diet and diet. me personally i lift for strength 100 percent of the time, because IMO if your strong its going to show for the most part. Adjust your diet and caloric intake to either put on mass or take it off. Also add more cardio to your rountine to cut away more cals.

the only problem i have is.i eat evey 2 hours.not that much maybe a chicken breat or some roast beef and a sweet potatoe and i still seem to put on fat in the stomach. any info as to why. i am not eatting tons of cals but i work hard at the gym

To gain muscle size first diet is most important and that means lots of healthy food, second you have to keep confusing your muscles into growth--once a plateau seems to be coming on then it is time to switch things up a bit.

First, look at calories.

Your body needs "x" amount of calories to function every day. If you want to gain, you need to eat more than that "x" amount. If you want to lose weight, you need to eat less than that "x" amount.

Second, look at food.

You need to see where your calories are coming from. High quality Protein, Complex Carbs, and Good fats.

If you are trying to lose fat, you need to do it slowly. If you decrease your cals too quick, you will slow down your metabolism ( which is not what you want to do).

here's an easy approach to diet:
first thing is to make sure you get in all your proteins... the cliched a gm of protein for every lb of body weight (at least that much - a little more is ok). the next thing you do is to manipulate how much of carbs you get in. over a period of time you'll learn what works best for your body for bulking without too much fat gain... cutting too, but it gets a little more complicated there with carb cycling being the best cutting method (that i know of at least)
