gym "rats"

this morning i did my leg workout, went well :) did 5 x 5 on squat, 2x12 on extension, and 2x12 on curl (both legs). and during that time, was being made fun of by a few guys at the gym! they were mocking me because i was only squatting 165 at my worksets (i havnt squatted in 6 months so i wanna get my good form back first :)) and it still killed my legs. now mind you, these guys are the guys that i see do the same workouts everyday, bench, tries, pulldown, curls. <-- 5 days a week for these guys... its sad! i just wanted to kick them in the nuts. im sure that you have all dealt with these kind of people before, but WOW they made me mad i just felt i needed to vent lol...

OH!!! its never the big guys that are like this, they are always nice and friendly and helpful :) its these tiny guys that are pissed about somethin, and have "small-man-syndrome". egos should be left at the front door as soon as you walk into a gym :)

thats just my 2 cents on that!
 
mockery is a sign of insecurity, keep doing what youre doing and take pride knowing that youre growing faster then fools like that. let em know it doesnt bother you by keeping your head up and use their hate as fuel for each rep. 5 months from now, they'll still be wearing the same shirts and pants, flexing all the while, when pullingbig and other insightful advisors have forced you to get new clothes that actually fit!! take virtue in that! lol.
dont be surprised that when youre not looking, theyre copying your style of lifting!!
 
thanks epzin :) your kind words are much appreciated :) and you are right, its fuel for me to lift harder and do better when they mock me... cuz when i get back to where i was b4 injury, i wasnt do too bad on weight, but my form was lacking. now im concentrating on my form, and i am hoping that i will just shoot way past my previous maxs' :D pullinbig and needsize should be given a medal for helping all us smaller folk reach our full potential (and in some cases more) :) i know i appreciate it everytime i read a post by them, always so positive and informing :) thats the way it should be done :)

Just tell them your friend is bigger than they are. That will ruin their day.:)


The sad thing is, once you are bigger then they are in a few years, they wont be there anymore. They dont sound serious. They will quit training sooner or later.
 
Ahh yes, the "bench press crew." They haven't discovered other excersizes, they haven't discovered much in the way of gains, and they wont be around long.

first of all i commend you on starting out light and making sure your form is right. the weights will increase over time. our sussess is measured by the lbs added to the bar week in and week out. I would rather see a guy squatting 135 correctly than some hittin 495 high as hell. or better yet 135 compared to someone who dont squat.

now for my next point. i am not a fan of 5 x 5 on squats. I am a fan of 1 all out set or 2 sets at best on leg movements. my body responds better to lower heavier reps so thats what i do. but if you respnd better to high reps do 1 set of 20 reps. or 1 set of 10 reps. I am also not a fan of leg extensions or leg curls. i prefer pressing exercise to build leg strenght and size. instead of extensions do some box squats or leg presses. instead of curls do stiff legs. you'll get more out of it and its less strain on you kness. I like one all out set on these as well.

but whatever path you follow i wish you well oh great and toofless one. ;)
 
I am glad the owner of our gym doesn't put up with shit-1st you have to put your weights away when you use them, 2nd if someone needs a spot you help them and vice versa, most important help the new guy, he could end up being the next mass monster so be his friend.

Our gym is very friendly and somewhat competitive without making the anyone feel stupid, everyone helps each other. Friends tease each other but nobody mocks anyone.

they are easily spotted because they wear sweat pants even in the summer because their never squatted bird legs look funny with their upper body development :D
 
no worries woot, ive learned to be my own competition. comparing myself to others is either a fake ego boost, or even worse, a blow to it!! and yes, i agree, everyone is very helpful on this site, ive learned more here in the last few months than i have in the last few years! i just keep learning and then testing in the gym, and lately, ive been aceing everything!

can i fit fake-cell-phone-conversationalists with fake-lat/chest/shoulder-syndrome in that group? i think so.

Yeah I know what you mean bro. Right now I'm squatting like 185 for sets just to get my form down, high reps. I was doing 315 2 weeks ago, but I was going scarecely to parallel. The thing about squats is that even at light weights they kick your ass.

I find big arms and nothing else the funniest :)
 
yea goin low enough is not an easy task in the beginning, i went around the gym and found a little stool that is basically about 2 inches below paralell when i touch my a$$ to it. so i just did my sets hitting that each time :) and it worked, i had trouble drivin my car home.... stupid clutch...

yea, ive been at this gym since october and had to go a variety of different times due to classes and work, and this was prolly the third time ive seen them... they dont stretch (unless they do it at home lol) i see them walk in and jump right on and start addin weight like its nobodies business...

and pullinbig... im not toothless... yet! lol... things are slowly progressing everyday.. i got a raise!!! lol.... they are tryin to buy my silence and its not gonna work =p. and pullinbig check your PMs buddy :)
 
the really bug guys remember what it was like to be small, so they are nice to everyone. Its the skinny little shits that think they are big, until the big guy gets there, that are the loud mouthed ones

Hell, the rec center has a set of plyo boxes (like anybody uses em), and I just use the lowest one for my squats. Somewhere right around halfway between parallel and ATF for me. Hurts like HELL, and I LOVE IT.

well...... um.... lets see. i prefer big pecs and big arms with a lot of body hair like da french girls. my wife thinks i am a homo. just cause she wears the strap on dont make me a home does it? :eek:
