Hair Loss on TRT...Should i add Proscar?

Would like to get some insight from those of you who take proscar/propecia in their testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) regimes.

I'm prone to losing hair when on test boosters / prohormones. Now that I'm on testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) I am definitely noticing it more often, as well as increased acne.

I do not want proscar to further mess up my sex life, as I know it's side effects are ED, decreased libido, etc.

I was thinking taking 1mg every other day would be enough to stop hair loss but not affect my sex life too much? Any thoughts?

That's a high dose of proscar.. It sounds like you r well aware of the risk, although slim, to taking proscar.. If you decide to take it, do a lower dose like .125mg a day (1/8 of 1mg)..

Proscar has a short half-life (approx 8 hours) and needs to be taken daily. For hair loss the standard prescribing application is 1 mg daily. That has consistently been shown to reduced Type II isoenzyme DHT levels at the scalp by 55% - 80%.

I've used 1 mg daily for the past 17 years and it is the only reason I still have a full, 20 yr old looking head of hair.

Doesn't prolonged use have serious effects on libido and erectile dysfunction????

No.

The rate of occurance of sexual side effects is less than 2%. Duration is not listed as one of the contributing factors.

Factors that affect reported sexual side effects include 1) previous sexual dysfunction, 2) age of subject (over 55+ are more inclined), 3) use of alcohol 4) other known health issues including obesity, hypertension, and cardiovascular issues.

Thanks for clEaring that up Cashout.. I read up on it so long ago that I should have double checked my info before posting.. Proscar comes in 5mg pills so if it is split in 4 it is actually 1.25 mgs, correct?
Also Cashout, any reason that you take proscar instead of propecia except for the price difference?
Is it true that they are the same ingredient?
I have been shedding a lot of hair since I started TRT.. I just figured my hair was less important than feeling good.. Maybe I don't need to make that trade off?

Proscar is covered by my insurance. It is the same chemical as Propecia the only difference is 5 mg tab vs 1 mg tab. As you wrote, I cut it into 4 pieces.

can proscar really thicken back hair lost as the drug makers say? or just keep what ya got? anubody ever really see their hair thicken back after starting?

ok this is going to sound silly but, how/when do you notice if you're losing hair because of testosterone replacement therapy (TRT), after a shower and you run a towel through your head if you see a large amount of hair, like that? My hair is really cut short I just do a clipper #1 on my whole head but, the thing is that I don't want any bald spots or anything. Is the hair loss just random like a patch of hair will go missing on a random spot on your head or something? or not like that? is it like receding hair lines it happens slowly? sorry for all the questions lol just want to be prepared.

oh and would you just go to a GP to get one of these meds prescribed?
