Hashimoto's thyroiditis anyone?

So my TSH score was high. I went into see a thyroid specialist with my labs. He asked to run them again and do an ultrasound on my thyroid glands. The ultra-sound showed a slightly smaller one on one side (Can't remember which) but said many have this.

Labs:

TSH: 1.55 (0.3-5.0)
FT4: 1.2 (0.9-1.7)
Tg: 23.6 (Under 28)
TPO: 18.8 H (Under 16)

So my TPO antibodies are high but my TSH leveled out. This is, according to the doctor, chronic thyroiditis. He told me to avoid foods with iodine in them and that's it. No meds.

Is this something most people would get treated as soon as they find out or do you wait for the numbers to get worse? I've tried looking for thyroid forums but can't seem to get anywhere. If anyone else has experience or can point me in the right direction, I'd be very grateful.
