Yesterday I was dong a set of leg press and by 10 it was getting tough but i ended up squezzing out 18 with a little help of the hands on the kness for the last two. I felt like i was gonna pass out on the last rep. IT also took me way longer than normal to recover before my next exercise. About an hour after finishing the workout, i started to get this terrible headache. Now, this morning, the headache persists and everytime i stand up from my chain the pain nearly puts me back in the chair.

Is it possible i busted a blood vessel in my head or something?

Anyone else experience this shit?

"Headaches triggered by any form of exercise are known as exertional or exercise headaches. Strenuous activities such as running and lifting weights are common culprits.

Exercise headaches have no underlying cause other than exertion. Although annoying, exercise headaches aren't serious. Proper diagnosis is important, however. Sometimes headaches after exercise are due to a serious underlying cause — such as bleeding in the brain"

"Sometimes a spinal tap (lumbar puncture) is needed to exclude bleeding in the brain due to a ruptured aneurysm (a bulge in an artery). With this procedure, the doctor will remove a small amount of the fluid that surrounds your brain and spinal cord."

i dont know about all of that shit.... when was the last time you ate prior to lifting?

I lifted at 7pm...last thing i ate was a bowl of ice cream around 430pm

I got those headaches----the doctor said they were "thunderclap" headaches---i went to a chiropractor , got straightened out and went on "naproxen" ---have'nt had them since---that was 1 year ago

thing is, i got enough things damaging my liver, i'm rarely use nsaid's...but i did take 400mg of ibuprofen and the pain has subsided.

yeh, i'll probably die but at least I can say it was my own fault

In which part of the head is your 'head ache"? Sometimes when I do leg press, I would get pain the the back of the head toward the neck area in the middle. Then a bigger headache would come along and stay for the duration of the day.

It really really helps to breath out when extending/pushing, instead of holding your breath in. You can actually burst a blood vessel if you hold your breath in during a heavy lift. Seen one on Worlds Strongest Men, the guy was doing a deadlift/squat and the blood just came shooting out of his nostrill on the way up

Also, try wearing a hat/cap, that will keep your head warm and it will make the headache go away.

Hey guys i actually have some experience with this but it does not apply to everyone...when i was competing powerlifting i had burst a couple blood vessels and eventually had a very minor rupture in a wall of my artery...my doctor did end up doing a spinal tap to relieve the pressure and i was giving blood thinners to help it from clotting but you should get your blood pressure checked cause mine at that time was staggering for a 20 year old kid. I am fine now and my doctor said i should never lift heavy again but with proper breathing i have been able to work around this problem i just dont get as intense as i use to. I am not saying anything that most of you dont know, but i just wanna stress that breathing properly during heavy lifts is sooo important and if your using any kind of supplementation that may alter your blood pressure it would be a good idea to get routine check ups at your doctor.

I had forgotten all about this, but it happened to me years ago when I was taking Ripped Fuel. My body has bad reactions to Caffeine especially, and ephedrine. Got a headache when I was doing cable crossovers that put me flat on the floor. After that I couldn't get out of bed for 2 or 3 days. Even moving in bed created throbbing pain in my head. I figure that was because of the increased blood pressure. Haven't had any problems for about 4 years now and BP is healthy.

appreciate the responses. I'd like to say I'm pretty intense in the gym. And As i said, i was really pushing to squeeze out those last reps on the leg press...in all honesty, i was no focusing on breathing...all I was thinking about was pushing that damn weight up. I'm sure those last reps had terrible breathing techinques.

I will continue to be intense..but I will think to remember proper breathing at the end of these tough sets.

Again, thanks..last thing I want is a spinal tap and shit.

it almost always happens to me on leg days!!!...never needed a spinal tap though..knock on wood!. they usually ease off throughout the day for me. but yeah, anticipating it in the begining is a freakin battle in and of itself!.
