hey Doc how about ladies on HRT

So I have a couple Interested in HRT here in Miami he is ready to go but she was asking me about joining HRT I said of course you can just get female blood work done to check your Testosterone also panels for estro and thyroid including p.c.o.s, my question to you the pros what is a normal range of testosterone for a woman? if higher than normal will she need progesterone? and are the rest of the panels I mention does have a meaning for HRT?

Hey Mr P! Hope all is well!

Great question. We treat many women and it is important to understand the negative feedback system and "menopause". We primarily replace estrogen and progesterone as these are deminished in the postmenopausal woman. It is important to also make sure their testosterone levels are sufficent as synthetic estrogen replacement can decrease natural levels severely affecting labido. We try and keep the plasma total testosterone above 20ng/dl

Running a complete metabolic panel is crucial to rule other issues secondary to menopause as well as see what the levels of the 3 big producers are doing.

great question casanovaaa, because of menopause a woman can benefit from a combination or just taking only one type of estrogen and progesterone,
