How Necessary Is It To Wear A Training Belt While Lifting? As Long As You Have Good Form And All...especially On Squats...even If You Have Good Form Should You Still Wear A Back Belt?

I think it becomes important at a certain point. Personally I feel that point is when you exceed your own body weight. SO I strap up when I get to 250 or so.

totally agree, i dont put my belt on except for anything over 225.

For warm up sets on squats or deads I do not wear a belt. Once the weight starts getting really heavy I feel a belt provides needed support and confidence needed to do the lift. The same for knee wraps as well.

Same here :yesway:

I go with anything over 315, thats my mark. I feel like my back gets bigger and stronger without a belt. My back starts to feel week if I use a belt all the time.

On squats I gradually increased the weight and I know only use a belt on 475 and up. Im going to to try to start using my belt only on 495 and up. I feel that without a belt I build muscles in my back that would not be there if I had used a belt.

i hate a belt...i feel like it takes my breath away when doin the set...i got ashma so my air already isnt so great but adding that in just makes it worse...i got a valeo belt thats blue and black, is their any kind of belts that help you breath better?

The belt should not constrict your breathing. Maybe it's on too tight?

no i loosen it...i think i just feel sufficated in it...sounds gay, but true. i breath really deep in and out on squats so maybe thats it...

I never used belts...will give it a try because they look cool and you can hit someone with it..LOL

but yeah..most rack works I see uses belts..

I use a belt after 365. I f I use a belt with anything lighter and i feel like I am cheating. The body needs to know how to support that kind of weight and if I were to wear a belt all the time I wouldn't know how to support/stabilize my body when lifting heavy things outside of the gym.

I don't ever use a belt. But with my DL exceeding 500 and my squats quickly catching up,,,,I am wondering if I should start using one. What do you think Pullinbig and Blackbeard?

Definately. I herniated two discs not wearing a belt doing cleans. Forget the thing about not developing the back as much, its not worth the pain of not wearing one.
