How many grams of whey protein can the body digest at one time (per shake)?

I'm talking about just whey protein, not any other type b/c I know food protein will take a lot longer to digest so it'll be absorbed at different rates.

So basically what is the maximum amount of whey that can be used per shake w/o wasting any? For my shakes I use 2 scoops (40g whey) + milk (6-8g) + TBS of PB (7g). I just want to make sure I'm not wasting any whey.

Sorry if this topic is already discussed a lot but I don't usually come into the diet forum.

This topic has been flogged to death. I do 4 scoops, 2 cups milk and 3 tbsps of olive oil in my morning shakes so 100+g's for me. Took a while to get to that point though.

thorsky-

How do you know if your body is not using all the protein you intake? You say it took you a while to get to that point, but how do I know when I can up my protein intake from shakes?

When I started hitting the protein hard (500+ per/day) I could barely move I was so bloated. Not to be nasty, but a fart could clear my whole office EASY! Gas, bloat, and just feeling nasty for like three hours after a shake. Now, I can drink 100g shake, eat a big bowl of oatmeal and a couple bananas and almost exactly 2 hours later I'm starving. In the words of DC, I've turned my body into a "food processing machine". After one of those big meals I can actually feel my metabolism ramp up and I tend to get really hot for about an hour.

Basically, I think you just have to get a feel for your body. I went from 214 to a current 272 with the same bodyfat so now I just eat huge. No matter how much I stuff myself, I'm still hungry within 2 hours. It's even to the point where I sometime eat twice per night (casein/whey shakes). Problem is I've hit a stalling point on weight, but we're working on that now! ;)

WOW! Over 500g protein a day?! Thats crazy! I'm the same way. No matter how much I stuff myself I'm always very hungry 2-3 hours later also. I know somebody said it all depends on your size on how much you can digest... I'm 6'4" 235. Would you say my body uses all 40g of whey at a time? I feel as if my body uses it all but I dont really know how to tell.

Thorsky - do you have a reasonably priced online source for the casein protein? I just discovered casein protein yesterday.

Vennom, and anyone else interested, www.trueprotein.com has some of the best protein I've tried to date. They have everything from cheaper concentrates to true ion x-change isolates. Protein customizer as well as premixed blends.

you body will only digest so much protein at one time and when it passes that point it is stored as fat if your glycogen is full. This does not include adkins because that puts you body in ketosis and you body burns the protein as ketones instead of using glycogen.
