How Much Protein Do I Need?

Just wondering how much protein I need to take in? I usally get like 200-250-280g's of protein a day.

220lbs
25yrs
18-19% BF as of 3 weeks ago.
 
It can vary a bit with your goals, you my need less when carbs are higher, more when carbs are lower, etc. I would say 1.5g/lb is a good place to start and you really cant go wrong with that.

I feel that alot of bodybuilders overeat on protein because they think more protein=more muscle. then they neglect carbs and see poor gains. atkins has screwed alot of athletes all over the world.

maybe a few nutritionaly un-educated athletes, but people who understand fats and how they work, will know that you can function and lift hard and intense with out an abundance of carbs in the diet.
 
Sorry for wording my post like an ass.

but my point was that that type of diets has created a fear of carbs. because alot of people actually think carb=fat. maybe not you and most people on this board.but most people including athletes are nutrtionally uneducated.

then again you dont need to overeat carbs aswell but i think a balanced diet is the best.

carbs also make the protein grow muscles for you.

if you ate nothing but protein your muscles wouldnt grow at all


also 1.5g protein/lb of bodyweight is way too much. I don't think anyones liver can properly metabolize that much in a day.


I've been eating about .5g protein/lb of bodyweight a day and my gains and lifts have been increasing extremely fast on this cycle, test + tren. which turns to about 30-40grams of protein 3-4 times a day.

I am actually in the process of switching to a lower carb diet now. I will only be getting carbs post workout in the form of 60-90g waxy maize. My goal is to lose some BF while keeping/adding lean mass in the process, with the "supplements" I don't see it being a problem. All other meals will be protein only with some good fats added in for calories.

If I was bulking I would get more carbs but from the research I have done, getting carbs post workout only is really all that's needed for lean mass gains. I will keep you all posted!
 
dznutzx, I would also like to hear you thoughts on that above statement as well. Not saying I agree or disagree, depending on where your going with it, you could have a point. I do think it all comes down to timing, i could be wrong.

Same goes for protein - just cuz you eat more doesn't mean you'll get more muscle. You don't NEED carbs to get big at all. Calories can come from protein and fat.

What you really need are the required amounts, determined by your stats and metabolism, a proper diet/training routine and a long time of enforcing that to see the gains you want.
