What I mean by this is how long per session do you have to do cardio to burn fat? For example is 15-20 minutes of cardio per session really doing anything for fat loss or do you really have to do it at least 30 min to really do anything?

diet is the biggest thing in my opinion for fat loss. "90% of how you look is what you eat" <-- a powerlifter once told me that...

heart rate is very important when doing cardio, there is a specific formula to figure it out, but most cardio machines have devices on them that will read it for you. im 20 years old, and my target heart rate is 120-170. when i do cardio i try and get it to around 125-130 which is just fast walking :) but i do it for 45 mins twice a week and that is it. It is recommended that you obtain your target heart rate at least 3 times a week for 20 minutes each time...

How's that working out for you? Do you notice you're losing fat by doing that? Also when do you do your cardio? (after workout, off days...?)

i only do cardio on my off days :) ive only started doing this like 2 weeks ago, so im not sure exactly what is happeneing, but i definatly feel a lot better about everything :)

I don't do cardio on purpose! Now that things have gotten a lot warmer and nicer here in europe I ride my bike to all places around the city. What's the point in driving a few km in your car to the gym to then hit the stationary bike??

If the weather is nice outside, well 15 mins to the gym on the bike even in rush hour seems like nothing, but 15mins bike in the gym just annoys me and pisses me off. In an austrian documentary on arnold his long year mentor and trainer in graz said that arnold was in the gym every day and then biked home all the way afterwards (around 30-45mins.). That's cardio 6 days a week after training and this guy was huge already when being 19 and on no gear except eggs, milk and meat ;)

However if I had to do cardio in the gym I'll do it after workout for 20-30 mins. 20 if you are doing some kind of hiit style training and 30 if you keep a constant heart rate. 2 or better 3 times a week. Mix up hiit and endurance work as well.

For fat loss I like to do cardio at a moderate pace for 45 minutes and no less than that. I will do this 3-4x/wk and eat a good diet.

ive been told that the first 15-20 min is when your body is using its glycogen stores as energy (depending what/how much you ate before) then it dips into fat reserves for the following 15-20 min (crucial time for fat burning - again, depending on previous factors) after that muscle becomes the primary energy source. for fat burning, id say more than 20 min for sure (except on an empty stomach in morn, when 20 min is sufficient) but keep it less 45 min, just to be on the safe side.

You lose weight by burning more cals than you eat.

The first thing to do is modify carb intake. The vast majority of trainers are ingesting way too many carbs and their bodys cant burn it all so it gets stored.
