Crazy benefits. They are saying this may very well be the cure for many of the muscle wasting diseases, if not then a way to nullify the diseases effects.
I do know it does have its side effects. That and since it is gene therapy the risks can be quite large and irreversible. The viral vessel used can mutate once in the body, and instead of giving you muscle mass it can kill you within a day or two(one documented case) or damage your DNA, which we know results in cancer.
Gene therapy is nifty, but alas I think it will bring more problems than benefits.
Fact of the matter is we are loading a viral shell with specific genetic codes that will be injected into our cells and alter/block our bodies natural programming. You can see the potential risks in this if one slight mutation occurs, no?
