Injections

Hey...If anyone knows...

When injecting (in the glute), I do all the necessary prep. procedures, and am using a 1.5" 23 guage pin. I inject in the upper-outer quadrant of the glute and extract the plunger to see if I've hit a vessel. Everytime I do this, I get the bubble and not blood...good sign, right?

Now, at the end of the injection, when all of the fluid has been injected, and I press the plunger down to make sure that all of it has been injected, some blood retracts into the syringe. Is this normal? This has been happeneing quite frequently.

I don't quite understand, cause I do extract before injecting everytime to make sure that I havn't hit a blood vessel, and everytime...no blood...not till the end of the injection, that is.

Anoyone know why this might be happeneing, or if it should be a concern?

whenever my friend pulls the syringe out there is always blood. Nothing to be concerned about, as long as you are aspirating (which you are) and you are getting the bubble and not blood. Are you injecting yourself in the glutes? If you are injecting yourself, I hear you have to sit down and not stand to relax the muscle

yeah there are always a few drops. If you aspirate though and get no blood you are safely away from the veins.

Hey Bro, try injecting in this spot. Place your hands on your waist, go 1-1 1/2 inches below your thumb. That's the spot for your injection, this is where you'll get an injection at the Dr. office not in the cheek.

There is no way to make sure you haven't HIT a vessel, pulling back on the pin only ensures you are not currently IN a blood vessel, you still may have went through one though. I've hit some stuff in my shoulder, and sometimes in the ass too, feel free to learn where your blood vessels are and move to somewhere else slightly, as long as your not poking in the same spot frequently, which is not good for the body.
