in my opinion dextrose is a poor quality carb source , it only mekes me retain water . id never would use it when dieting maybe while bulking . more over i think the supplement companies got everyone all hyped about crap carbs post workout so they can sell you post workout drinks with cheap carbs average protein at a high cost. studies on muscle recuperation post work out shakes were done with minimal amunt of carbs and protein , there are no studies with this high amount of sugar being beneficial post work out plus if your getting plenty of carbs and protein it'll be impossible to really be defficient in protein and carbs . remember you can store up to 400 grams of glycogen wich only and endurance athlete will actually be able to trully tax , as for us bodybuilders i beleive a good pre-work out meal 1hr before is many times more beneficial, if your worried about catabolism then a lil carbs like 20 grams with 5 grams glutamine and 5 to 10 gram branch chain aminos will take care of any possible muscle loss and recuperation, remember while dieting FOOD is more important than shakes due to the thermic effect of food , which whey and dextrose have close to none ,also the large spike in insulin though anabolic will also halt any possible fat loss
