Is it just me?

I basically keep the same routine. Seem to make progess.

I might throw different exercises in occasionally but its usually the same.

I never do the same exercise two weeks in a row. That way I'm training the muscle in different ways so it doesn't get "used" to the movement. This is the way I was trained and it worked for me, so I don't see a reason to stop if it's working.

Seriously? That's hardly even enough time to train your nervous system, much less your muscles. There is nothing wrong with using the same exercise for extended periods of time.
Your muscle doesn't get "used" to exercises, your nervous system does. The only thing your muscle gets resistant to is a specific weight. If you use a certain weight for too long, sooner or later it becomes ineffective. Your muscle doesn't know what movement you are doing, all it knows is how much load is being applied.

just a complete noob point of view here...take it for what its worth.

for the past 3 years I have been doing pretty much same lifts...only variations would be swapping from DB's to BB's, swapping machines for freewieghts....and obviously playing with reps counts and STR's.

However, I recently started working out in a different way, doing exercises I have never done before....while my numbers aren't jumping up right now (learning the proper way to do these things...someone earlier posted on "having to learn new methods" or whathaveyou as being a bad thing....I think the opposite.) but once I learn and these "weak spots" grow....my numbers should skyrocket.

I will attest to the "train to your weakes muscle" mentality. I had no idea of the weak spots I had until now. Weak sucks. LOL. But I left my ego at the door when I asked for help....so it's only up from here.
