I have been seeing this girl for awhile now, we get along very well, alot do to the fact that we both enjoy training and everything that comes with it.

She is 23 about 5'8 140lbs. She is in very good shape, but she also trains none stop.(something we argue about). She has this tendency to put on muscle VERY easily. Her diet is good, and she has tried different types of training such as circuit training, high reps, more sets. But she also runs for an hour on average about 6 days a week.

We have tried to alter her diet accordingly, but she is also afraid of too much protein do to the ease of hypertrophy she can attain quickly. What I recommended she try was to eat carbs only first thing in the morning and pre-workout, and try to get the rest of her calories from protein and healthy fats. But I told her before she try this I would consult some females who actually know what they are talking about. which is why I have come to you.

Can you girls recommend some type of program that will help tone up as oppose to put muscle mass on?

And when she does take a break here and there she pack on weight quickly as well. And I am out of suggestions, I thank you for your time and any opinions you might have.

sorry it took me so long!! ok- first off she needs to calculate the # of calories she needs in a day- if she is grossly exceeding that #, she WILL gain weight no matter WHAT her training looks like. what does she weigh? what is her bodyfat?

I know she weighs 140lbs, she is 5'8'', bf I am not sure of, but by looking at her you would not think she has much of an excess. I am working on her diet with her, but she is a little self conscious and thinks that if she eats more than she is that she will get fat.(she is not eating enough to be healthy and still trying to train hard). I asked her what she ate yesterday and her reply was an apple and an egg.

Can you give me a rough caloric intake as a base point to figure out how many calories SHE requires? I was guessing anywhere from 1500 to 2000, but then again I have never really researched wqhat the average female eats for calories.
