What is your guys opinion on when to lift during the day? whats best? morning, afternoon, night? and if in the morning, what do you guys like to eat right before you lift? do you go with just a protein shake? or do you eat a meal in the morning before you lift?

its different for everyone.
I usually have my best sessions around 10am, with a decent feed a couple of hours before.

but what I want and what I get are two different things. More often than not I train first thing in the am( between 5 and 6). The afternoon/evening doesn't work for me

I usually work out in the middle of the day and then I go back to work for a while. In the morning I am slow moving, in the evening I like to be social, during the day I work but I have an open schedule so that is when I go to the gym.

i would try to lift when you feel you have te most energy
some are morning people others feel great later at nite

if your going to some AM workout
pro shake with some oatmeal mixed right in it should be perfect not too heavy but has enough carbs to get you through

Go with what everyone else said, but make sure that you try (as far as your schedule permits) to stay consistent as to the time of day you workout so that your body will adjust and, hopefully, that will become the time of day you are most ready.

I used to lift in the afternoon, but now I lift in the evenings because that is all my schedual will permit. Your body will adapt, but when ever you feel the most energetic if possible.

Ditto. I spike insulin a bit and throw in about 7g of creatine, then I hit the gym, sometimes I add in 22g protein via whey. I will have eaten several times by the time I get to the gym.

I lift late afternoon/early evening about 4-5:00 before work. I lift best when I have 2 solid meals in me. I don't wake up until between 11-1 because I work late at night.
