liver test results off

Hi all! I have been on 200 mg test cyp (weekly) since March 2011. I am 47 at 6'1, 240 lbs. I have lost body fat and gained muscle mass. My energy level is great and sex drive feels like i'm 20. Labs have been good until yesterday. My urologist said my liver function test was off and he is sending me to get more blood tests. He thinks it may be linked to the test cyp. He backed me down to 150 weekly. My test level was at 680 on the six day when I had blood drawn. Has anyone else had any issues like this. Dr said there is a possibility that I might have to come off the test. The way I feel on testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) I have not felt in 20 years.

Dr. also said my blood levels were above normal and he wants to draw off some blood.

test results:
RBC result: 6.49 range: 4.10-5.60
Hemoglobin res: 18.5 range: 12.5-17
Hematocrit res: 55.4 range:36-50

Bilirubin result:1.5 range:0-1.2
AST (SGOT) res:49 range 0-40
ALT (SGPT) res:62 range:0-55

Thanks

Bilirubin result:1.5 range:0-1.2
AST (SGOT) res:49 range 0-40
ALT (SGPT) res:62 range:0-55

I'd be worried also. Drink? Any other drugs? I doubt it's the testosterone replacement therapy (TRT), is he gonna test for stds etc?

The only thing I have done recently, over the holidays and before bloodwork, was attend several holiday parties. I did drink! Could this have elevated the liver results to this extent. I normally will drink 3-4 beers once a week. This holiday season was a little more cheerful than that. As for the std's I have been married for four years and have not strayed. Hope the wife has not. All the bloodwork before was normal.

3-4 beers once a week is normal? All at once? Holidays was more? I don't drink at all so I can't say if thats enough to raise liver values. Sounds bad for you though IMO. I'd ask the dr or maybe someone with more know how here will chip in.

Google liver values and drinking. It doesn't take much to raise the values and it can take awhile to drop. Good news is your liver can heal itself. Even if the root cause is not just the holiday bing drinking (could be something else) I'd drop it altogether until the values are back to mid-normal range.

How much more then the normal 5 beers once a week did you drink over the holidays? Just wondering, no judgement from me I used to drink heavy when I was younger.

Elevated Liver enzymes can come from a lot of things..including training hard.. muscles actually relaease these enzymes when you work out a lot due to the breakdown of the muscle..You are barely over the range..myself at 23 have had my ALT, AST almost double the top of the range and only reason was training alot in the gym and too much vitamin A..within two weeks of lowering vitamin A all my levels came back into place. There could be a lot of reasons for the elevation...I would not be too worried just being a little over the range.

I train very hard, supplement and have never tested out of range. I'm not a Dr but personally anything that involves a vital organ and it's function being off would worry me enough to find the root cause and fix it if I could. Of course I had a grandpa need a liver transplant at 50 and a mom with kidney issues at 57.

We are all our own unique biochemistry and react differently from one another..I agree he should find out what is causing it but also just letting him know that a little over the range is usually not a big deal when there are no other symptoms like jaundice present. Like I said before little things like too much fat soluable vitamins can cause an elevated liver enzymes.

Just to be safe Op a liver ultrasound may not be a bad idea.

did you drink the night before your blood test? that will raise it, has happened to me before. so he called me when the results came in and said my liver count was too high and so I figured it was probably since I drank the night before.

So, I went back in to take the test, i fasted (didn't eat or drink anything except water for 12 hours before the test) so no alcohol that night. Then my liver count came out fine.

I thought i read somewhere that test cyp can't do any damage to the liver since it's injected, it's not a pill so the liver isn't breaking anything down, is that true?

Thanks for all the responses. I have been out of town since the weekend. I have cut out all alcohol since my last visit to the doc. I'm going for follow up/new bloodwork on 1/12. Stay well! Thanks
