Long-Term Effects of TRT

Doing the TRT thing
Anyone been on testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) for over 10 years? I'm wondering how sustainable it is to be on testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) long-term.

I'm 25 and just got started in April of this year. May be too late to go back now but I'm just thinking about things like...

How does it affect your ass 10 years down the road? Won't there be so much scar tissue? Will you have to increase the dose? Will injections start hurting more?

Anyone have any insight or resources that talk about long-term effects of TRT?

That is a good question. I started 8 months ago and feel like a million bucks now that my levels are close to being where they should be.

I have a friend that had been on for over 10 years if you include his steroids too.

If you are using a big needle, yes, it gets hard. He seems to be doing fine. You turn grey a little faster, lose a lot more hair. Your skin seems to look better for your age.

I use 29 g insulin needles and inject every other day.... screw the intra muscular!

your 25 and just started testosterone replacement therapy (TRT)? How long have you been using steroids? I wouldnt imagine testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) at that age to be necessary. Maybe you can help me understand?

There isnt a specific age or guideline for hypogonadism. If you have it, you correct it or treat it.

I had never done steroids before and started testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) at age 22.

I think the biggest issue for long term use is the negative feedback extending to the pituitary and thyroid and adrenal glands. Some members of other forums claim to have hypothyroidism and hypopituitary issues after having been on trt. Normally testosterone is created every 15 minutes or so, but in a shot it lasts about a week - and of course LH and FSH drop to near zero with a regular dose of TRT. Balding from high DHT conversion and increased RBC size and count are common. From the labs I have seen, DHEA definitely drops to zero after years of use and other hormones decrease as well. The hormone system is like a musical orchestra. I'm sure there are guys that are having success with it too long term like have posted here- but I would expect to be substituting with other hormones as time goes on. Everybody is somewhat unique and some handle it better than others. I have also seen commonly IGF-1 drops to near zero. DaDawg can either confirm or deny these possibilities since it is his board, but this is just what I've seen. The balding thing scared me the most- probably because my SHBG is low and the high amount of free test converts to DHT and E2. Also for me definitely the ejaculate volume decreased greatly. Libido also decreased for me - but I think this is due to high E2 conversion from low SHBG (below range).

Liver

I would be more concerned about liver cancer or prostate cancer. The liver has to deal with the testosterone afterall. Im considering going on testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) and cancer is my biggest concern. Although I didnt realise that other hormones could be reduced to 0 by taking test. You would think after all these years companies would be producing a safer form of testosterone, injectables have been going for decades. Im surprised to read about the doses people are receiving. In the UK they are far lower, aimed at putting you in the mid to low range.

TRT is sustainable for life. There are young men that cant produce testosterone on their own. They are given testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) through puberty and and the rest of their lives...
